Funny discussion between friends yesterday,

I like to boil them first so its well-cooked inside before I put them on the grill and gets rid of some of the grease.

Then I get 2 people to strongly disagree with the main argument that it tastes better if grilled directly.

Actually, I think that microwaving them while still sealed in the plastic tastes best. Makes them taste ballpark style.

I didn't wanna go higher on an ebay auction for a hotdog roller. Woulda been awesome.

Grill them directly. I never heard of anyone boiling them first until now

Best way to eat Hotdogs is to cook them over an open fire on a stick or some sort.
Second best way is to Grill them.
After that come Microwaving.
And dead last to be used only when no other option exists is boiling. *gag*

And no reason to boil them first unless you don't know how to use your grill. Turn the heat to medium or medium low and a hotdog will cook in just a couple minutes. Unless it's frozen, then you might want to nuke it for a bit to thaw it out. But no reason to boil them at all that I can see. They cook just fine without it.

Hotdogs are already precooked, you could eat them right out of the bag if you want. It tastes good on a charcoal bbq.

Same here. I liked grilled better, but who has the time to fire up the grill just for a hotdog?

The *best* way to cook hotdogs is by electrocuting them. I do this in physics class every year when teaching the differences between parallel and series circuits. The kids always remark about how much better tasting the hot dogs are than when cooked other ways.

(Oh, for what it's worth, it takes roughly 4 times as long to cook 2 hotdogs in series than to cook 2 hotdogs in parallel, as expected. The difference is usually 3 or 4 percent.)

I guess you own a charcoal grill as a propane or natural gas grill can easily be "fired" up in minutes.

Yeah, I don't particularly care for gas grills.

Kingsford FTW.

We used to have a butcher shop near us that would make homemade hotdogs. The ONLY way I cooked them was to boil them. Grilling them took away from the amazing flavor they had.

Regular hotdogs... id just throw them on the grill. I doubt youd taste a difference.

For me it really depends on the dog. Boiling works great for hot dogs, frying for hot links, grilling for brats. Cooking them two ways is just a waste of time IMO.
