What is the best way to close the account. I have $1503 in it and hope to have $150 added at the end of July (120 days from opening for me). Do you just write yourself a check for the full account balance and cash it - leaving zero and as soon as it clears, call in to cancel the account ? Or do you have to cancel with $1500 + in it to avoid them tacking on a fee and wait for them to mail you a check for your balance ?

By teh way, I really like BofA's bill pay much better and for quicken users you can have automatic updates of your account (not quicken bill pay) for Free. Citibank charges $9.95 a month. You can still download the transactions in quicken with Citibank, but it is easier with one step update and BofA. I think BofA is paying liek $100 to open some kinds of accounts. It may be harder to avoid fees in a BofA account, I do not know becuase I have direct deposit and avoid fees.

Okay I emailed Citibank in regards to closing my account, and I got this as a response:

To close your account, you have the option to call Customer Service, send a message, visit a financial center, or send a written request. Written requests may be sent to the following address:
Citibank (West) FSB
P.O. Box 348480
Sacramento, CA 95834-8480

Please be advised that if your account balance is greater that $2,000.00 or is overdrawn by more then $25.00, you must either write to the above-mentioned address or visit your local financial center. If your account balance is less then $2,000.00 or overdrawn by less then $25.00, you can contanct Customer Service to close your account ot send another message [via their internal message support system]

The free with Direct Deposit account at BofA limits the number of times you can actually see a LIVE teller to THREE times a month. This is something that I am not comfortable with. DD with Citibank and you have full access to your cash, online, ATM and in person. BofA is good if you are a heavy ATM user, but otherwise, they charge you for EVERYTHING.

Beleive it or not, there is NO CITIBANK where I live, so the live teller aspect is not really worth much Those are good points though if you need a teller.

You should not be charged a monthly fee as long as you mantain the minimum monthly balance requirements.

What is your current monthly balance?

Well that pretty much answers that ... when I do this (still haven't) I plan on keeping my balance $1,500 or higher for the minimum period. Is it 3 or 6 months? I forgot.

am i the only one who's not getting the $150? I signed up in March. I used the billpay service to pay my cable bill every month. My first statement was on april 14th. I have less than $1500 in my account right now. Could that be the reason that they're not giving me my money? I gotta close the account soon before they charged me another $9.95

For those of you that did the 2 online payments to yourself - did it work (qualify)?

For those of you that are getting charged monthly fees, you need to keep > $1,500 in the account (as mentioned previously). Here's what happened to me when I called the CSR to ask why my balance was $1,590.50:

BB: Why am I being charged $9.50?
CSR: Because you need to have > $1,500 in the account.
BB: I deposited $1,600 to open the account on 6/25 and was charged $9.50 on 7/8
CSR: Yes sir. You need to keep an average of at least $1,500 in the account
(* twice repeated the exchange of above info to see if she would catch it on her own *)
BB: Ok, please explain to me why the period for averaging my balance starts before the account was opened.
CSR: Please hold...
CSR: Ok Mr. BB, your account will be adjusted for the monthly charge.
BB: Thank you.
CSR: Would you like to know the balance of your account?
BB: Umm, wouldn't that be $1,600 after the correction.
CSR: The balance is $1,590.50. It will take a few moments for the adjustment to post.
BB: (disgusted) Thank you... *click*

moral: stay on top of these bastards!

I am in on the $150 / $1500 deal.

I funded on 6/10. I paid two bills with billpay always keeping my balance above $1500.00. The statement I just received looks good with no service charges or extra fees. It clearly states I have to keep $1500 to avoid charges.

I just have to wait for my $150 and 90 days with my average balance > $1500.

Good luck all by I trust Citibank on this one, just follow the rules.

Well, they are trying to screw me. I signed up with the CGA code ($1500/$150) near the end of March. The signature page I printed and mailed to them states the deal. An email I got from them on April 3rd states the deal. But, they are saying I didn't open the account until April 4th and the deal expired on 3/31.

They are going to "investigate" it and get back to me. Yeah, I'm sure that will turn out in my favor.

Any advice? Does anyone know a code that was the same deal that was good after 3/31?

Thanks!

Depending on which code you signed up with, you will have different requirements to get
the $150. I think one requirement regardless of the code is that you must maintain your
minimum balance (which could be $1500 to $2500).

My requirement was to link up my Citi Mastercard to the CitibankOnline account so I could
view my balance on that credit card.

Just in case, however, I paid 2 online bill payments and have always kept the balance
over $1500 (which is my minimum requirement).
