Awesome specs! But I never heard of the company, product reliability, and especially its customer service. Being at Aldi, I doubt if they have demo unit.

Well Tung,
Thanks for that great insightful response. Would you mind backing up your assessment with
maybe a little information about your findings? Or are you just thread crapping to boost your
number of messages?

Here is my response:
IT IS NOT A SCAM.

I bought a desktop computer from Aldi's made by Medion a few months ago.
There was a big line for them and I got one of the 15 as the store opened.
I paid cash and walked out the door with the computer.
I downloaded the newest drivers from www.medion.com
At the time, the a similarly configured Dell system cost $1280, I paid $799
Its been working great. In fact, I'm posting while using the computer.

Now Medion is selling laptops. Good for them. If they can put together
desktops for much less then Dell, it shows you the markup Dell had on their PCs.

No, it is not. Aldi store's owners are among the top 20 bilioners, dude! Check the latest list from Fortune mag.

Here's
another review. But it's in german, tho. My German 101 doesn't do crap.

From one user's review:

Weiterempfehlung an Freunde: Ja
Arbeitsgeschwindigkeit gut
Darstellungsqualität Display gut
Ausstattung / Lieferumfang sehr gut
Bedienung / Handhabung sehr gut
Abmaße / Gewicht gut
Stromverbrauch durchschnittlich
Installation keine Angabe
Handbuch / Anleitung sehr gut
Garantie keine Angabe
Service / Support durchschnittlich

The review from british site was written by a journaist who, I think from the rather superficial review, is not geeky enough.

In my hometown in Germany are a few Aldis but here in the U.S. there is none in Colorado (yet?). Too bad. I think they started to sell computer systems from time to time in Germany at least 5 years ago. Great idea.

"Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor, 2.20 GHz Processor"
It's not with the "M"(Mobile Pentium 4).
It is using the desktop cpu?

Anyone who picks up one of these, please post your experiences, thoughts about the laptop (batt life, heat, performance, etc.)
The folks live about 10 min away from an Aldi in OH, and I'll have them pick up a lappy for me and bring it with them on their next visit...

I haven't been in an Aldi in years... but they sell generic food in NW Ohio (and SW Ohio, as far as I can tell from the ads). Very low cost, and are typically in "poorer areas of town."

I actualy picked up a nice orion 25 inch tv at aldi's for 160 in Jan. It works great Feature rich and cheap price! I highly would suggest purchasing electronics from aldi's. Not to bad price on desks either. I think its odd for a grocery store to carry odd items like that but it rocks for me when I have one in my town! Unfortunatly will pass on this one... not needed right now. Sweet deal though. could always wish for a better video card but then again it is a labtop...

They seem to be in poorer areas but they do have them in other areas too. They build one the other year in my town which is middle to upper class area. Its interesting cause half the town refuses to go there the other half only goes there.

Aldi is a something special. Back in Germany, many folks are talking about these stores like only the poor people go there and cheap stuff and no, we do not go there, no way.

And then you see the very same doctors, lawyers and Mercedes drivers rock up at the place and stock a few cases of excellent French Champagne or other booze, with some chunks of meat and the few goodies on special in their trunk, hoping that noone recognizes them. The prices are just unbeatable, must suck to be a producer having to sell your good to them ;-)

Really, they got good stuff from major brands, but sometimes re-badged. I know that this has nothing to do with the computer above, but Aldi is not in the business to scam folks. They make zillions because folks come back all the time.

I may just need to get in on this, the nearest ALdi to my place is like 100 miles, but still, I'm goin off to college, and I don't know if I want to bring my rig with me, and that price is great. I just need to know about battery life.

The spread of Aldi through the US looks a bit like cancer growing .... from one site to another. How many more years before they reach the other ocean?

Are they building railroad tracks as they go along?
