The Bestbuy one that is 2110 is a Mintek 2110, which is very hackable. No region and Macr*vision hack is available.

Unfortunately, my local BB's have stacks of the CH model (Cyberhome) which only has a region hack available, so that is the likely candidate as I bought the last 2110 last night.

They used to be great players and the choice among many people. However, earlier this year they had to remove their VCD support b/c they didn't want to pay the royalties on it. Before, you could play just about anything. Also, many are CD upgradeable with different firmware.

Get what pay for, I would not get apex if only dvd player in western hemisphere.
I told my sister not get one but she did last night anyhow. She could not get work so brought it over to me. Sure enough no video, no menu. Did not seem sink in, my sister kept saying how is possible. Im like because its piece of junk. Well sure got its revenge on me, it decided no picture or sound was not enough and would not eject my star wars ep 2 dvd. 5 mins later after repeated tabs on eject button , tray comes out, NO DVD!! Long story short, I had take dvd player apart to get my now Ruined star wars dvd.
My sister would just kept it, she hates returns so much, so made her go back right away. Lucky I did, two walmart CS reps told her that their policy is they can not return electronicc hardware, only exchange for same thing. I told them thinking of software, since when did they have that crappy policy. So after throwing fit and telling them luckly I not asking for new star wars dvd, some manager approved credit back to my sister.

Avoid apex on your life, spent extra and get $100 toshiba at least.

You seem to have got a bad unit....also how did it ruin the DVD? Apex is a decent low end brand. Akai is good too (Samsung low end).

YMMV with any purchase.

I stopped by my local CC today, and they were just unloading the truck with sales. They had a a stack of the Apex players which was something like 6 high, 10 long, and 4 wide. You do the math . They obviously think they're going to sell like hotcakes, and at that price, I'm sure they are

Apex are throw away dvd decks! If you get a full year out of it,you are better off than most Apex owners. The local W-Mart tells me the have about a 50% return on the Apex! So I guess you have a 50/50 chance of getting a working unit!

Same here. Occasionally, I have to play with the power buttons and eject buttons to get it to read a dvd though. I got mine for $19.99 at Amazon a couple of months ago so I can't complain too much.

I have an apex, it reads about half the movies I watch fine, about 10 percent not at all, and the other 40 percent with minor freezes.

i bought on the wonderful reviews of people on message boards like this one, hehe. Good luck, it's a crap shoot with those things.

I've NEVER had a problem with my Apex, and it plays 100% of my movies, including vcd's.

Just a small piece of advice: Spending a few more bucks on a DVD player might pay off in the long run.

I have a Pioneer player that is 4 years old and it has played thousands and thousands of DVDs...it still works like new.

Mintek is a decent player. I am very pleased with the 1600 model I picked up last week for $49 at Best Buy.

Great player. My only complaint is that it doesn't remember your place when it shuts down. Still, for $49 it's a steal.
