I have an older Apex DVD player (AD-660) that has a little bug - apparantly the subtitles are turned on by default. So every time you play a movie you have to remember to turn off the subtitles. On a few disks, I actually wasn't able to turn off the subtitles at all. I guess it's a known bug. Otherwise, it works really nice... For the money, I'd recommend the Apex.

My Apex has lasted for over 2 yrs and it has no problems whatsoever. Even dvd's of mine i've turned into vcds work great altho it takes a little bit of time to load. Mp3 playing works perfectly although you have to edit the file name to get it to show up right. Being able to play vcd's easily saved me $$$$$$$$$$.

Amazon still sell them, but there's no way whether its the old or the newer 1500s (non-hackable yet)

Strawberries music and video advertised some DVD player for $30 after rebate. Some brand like Coby or something. Don't have a list of Strawberries store locations. Don't know if they're online. I'm sooooo helpful.

ABC Warehouse has an Apex MP3 DVD player for $37.88 after $8 mail in rebate. Their item # is 24827. I can't find what the model # is on the Apex though. Not listed in the add, and their website sucks. Tried searching on the item#, says it found one result, but you can't see the result or select it.

Not the greatest post, but another dvd player to add to the list.

The Apex 1500s at Longs may not be hackable. At least not the ones at my local Longs. They all have serial numbers like D1500020703...
Read that the 7 denotes July and that would make it the "newer" non-hackable unit.

Some good prices for DVD players. It seems they will soon be giving these things away for free. I got my Koss DVP2165 (all region hackable, Macrovision disable, plays NTSC & PAL on NTSC TV) all for $24.90.

I have a Lenoxx DVD-2003 very hackable, region FREE, No Macrovision, play all kinds of DVD/VCD/CDR
The only thing I hate is its crappy remote control, limited range, has to be lined up exactly with the sensor to work

BTW, price is like $57 - $20 MIR and free ET movie dvd

Ive got a pioneer that is 4 years old and still works but the DVD door closes on itself everytime you try to load a DVD . Been doing that since it was around 12 months old . When it was about 9 months old it would do it every once in a blue moon . Now I have to hit the open button and qucickly snap the dvd out . Then hit the open button again and snap the replacement in ...... big pain .
Story short ..... dosent matter what you buy it might be good or bad
I paid $300 and some-odd for my pioneer so I should be ticked . $50 for a apex and it did the same after a year and Id be like who cares

IT PLAYS DISCS IN PAL FORMAT!!!

with most dvd players- it can read the PAL TV-standard discs, but outputs it at the PAL resolution
not the Apex though, it automatically converts it to NTSC

sweet if you want to play import dvd's from other countries (it's not the same as region-free)
