Color me skeptical ...

In none of the cases he faces was jail/prison time likely at all this year unless he manages to end up in contempt. There are going to certainly be appeals if convicted.

The question is really will felony convictions, of any kind, meaningfully damage him with a part of the electorate that is already skeptical of him and the answer seems to be yes per multiple pollsters. Becoming a literal felon is not likely to help in the general election.

I want to remind people how SCOTUS adjusts its speed to help Republicans get elected to WH.

Bush v Gore 1 month to stay recount and decide case in favor of Bush (fast)

Dec Jack Smith requests SCOTUS to rule expressly on immunity claim already decided by district court. Court says no we’ll deal with it later (slow)

Colorado takes Trump off ballot A14S3 SCOTUS steps in quickly and issues a stay (fast) 54 days

Feb SCOTUS decides to take up immunity case but hearings are Apr 22 (slow). Not only did they slow walk it but put a stay on the DC case which they didn’t have to do (slow time wasted)

SCOTUS doesn’t have to decide until end of term July. Now you have potentially run out the clock and SCOTUS will standby ready to help Trump once again to stay any running cases too close to the election.

Courts move fast to help Republicans. Courts move slow to help Republicans.

Get it yet? The fix is in

Can Congress pass a law that says DOJ cannot drop a case or fire special prosecutor once trial starts?

Maybe that protects cases

Jeffrey Clark has lost his effort to keep DC Bar from pulling his license to practice law. That's a shame.
Some new added background with Trump lawyer who tried to talk Jeff out of participating.

Another MAGA, Make Attorneys Get Attorneys story.

https://www.salon.com/2024/03/27/ex...-for-his-part-in-the-2020-mess/?in_brief=true

As The Los Angeles Times points out, Eastman claimed he was acting in good faith, and as a vigorous champion of his client. But State Bar attorneys argued “the evidence, including his often not-credible trial testimony, shows that he held — and still holds — truth and democracy in contempt, deliberately disregarding facts that demonstrate the validity of Biden’s victory to further a false narrative that would ignore the Constitution, disenfranchise millions of voters, and undermine a democratic election for President of the United States in favor of his allegiance to Trump.”

Maybe one less lawyer in CA.

Alright agreeing wholeheartedly with Karl Rove was not on my agenda this morning but ok:

I disagree. You have MTG and Trump painting them as martyrs and political prisoners. That's a tough narrative to counter in upside down world called America.

On the other hand, you can absolutely hammer repubs on repealing Roe vs. Wade, criminalizing abortion, and going after IVF even. Absolutely. Crush. Them. They have 0 counter narrative.

Turns out women kinda like being in control of their own bodies and they make up ~50% of the population. Who would have guessed?

Lol orange monkey lawyer basically saying it’s a presidential act to bribe someone, to order the military to attempt a coup and to put forward an illegal slate of electors.

Aiya!!!! What is the purpose of the Supreme Court? Aren’t they only to interpret the law and constitution? Gorsuch wants to write an opinion beyond the scope to the case on hand and to blanket cover future cases.

You're probably going to get a decision that remands back to Chutkan to determine whether each and every act alleged in the indictment was "official duty" or not. And each of those will be appealed all the way back to SCOTUS delaying the case for a substantial amount of time.

Yes, once they decided to hear this ridiculous case and not do so in a timely manner it was clear their goal was to push it past the election. I’m nearly certain they will eventually rule against Trump but it won’t matter much by then. If he loses the election he’s going to prison unless he dies first and if he wins then none of this really matters anyway.

I don’t see Trump going to jail. This court is not only delaying here, but also gutting a key law used to prosecute J6.

The huge tell by the MAGA Supreme Court was not only accepting the case, but in ordering all proceedings in the J6 case halted during the appeals. And they are certainly in no hurry, may not announce ruling until end of term. At which point they will order new hearings in the lower court to determine what actions are covered by the Supreme Court’s newly invented law.

The Supreme MAGA court writing and implementing a brand new constitutional amendment giving partial immunity to Republican presidents, as they appear to be doing right now, is right in line with their prior legislative actions. I foresee them drawing a hugely wide scope for “official acts” that Trump alone now gets immunity for.

If Trump loses the election I am highly confident he will be convicted of one or more felonies and sentenced to serve time in a place he cannot leave.

I would prefer he be convicted and sentenced but him dying is definitely an acceptable runner up.

I think a combo is best. Loses election. Gets convicted. Spends rest of his life as a loser and wastes what's left of his money fighting it in court.

Nah. After getting convicted. Flees the country to Russia. Putin extracts as much info out of him and throws him out a window.

Putin wouldn’t throw him out a window - he would happily trot him out to talk about the corrupt US at every opportunity.

If he loses the election (and there isn't a more competent cheat/coup to put him in) it won't matter. He'll be ditched by GOP supporters as fast as they swiveled onto him from Jeb, Cruz and the others in 2016. He'll spend his last years completely irrelevant. All the righties will say how they "never really liked that guy."

He's no spring chicken. This is the last rodeo for him. I wonder if lingering on free for years with no spotlight on him might not be the worst punishment he can imagine.

I'd love to see justice served but the main thing I want for an early xmas is him not being President in 2024. Anything else is a bonus.
