a co-worker actually purchased a house in arizona.Originally posted by: Budmantom
In Arizona you can buy a nice house for about $150k and the weather is great, not too many good jobs though.

Just hop across the water to Victoria & you will get an average of 30% wage cut & only about 15% cheaper housing. However, the weather is much nicer....1/2 the rain & 4 time the sunshine.Originally posted by: cyclistca
Houses prices in Vancouver suck. In fact I'm in IT and I can't even afford to buy a house in this market. The best I can hope for is a condo or maybe a small townhouse.
I've already lost out on two places because of bidding wars.
And gee it isn't even sunny here year around.
Cool! If you have time we could meet up for a brew or sum thing.Originally posted by: dquan97

My wife is from Victoria and I admit that the place is GREAT!!!!!!! Nothing like strolling along Inner Harbor at sunset, while gazing at the Empress building. We're driving up there in Dec. from CA.
Actually, Southern Oregon and Eastern Oregon get a lot more sunshine than the Willamette Valley area (Portland, Salem, Eugene).Originally posted by: WaTaGuMp

Housing Prices here in Boston suck like they do in CA. Plus the weather here isn't anywhere close to being as nice. Try Oregon!Originally posted by: coldcut
Everything is expensive in CA. I'm planning to move to Boston, New York, New Jersey (OOL) or Washington DC when I graduate.
Oregon isnt bad if you like rain.

That sound cool, but it won't be much of a meet because there are only 2 ATers here.Originally posted by: dquan97

That's a pretty mean trick when you consider MA is the Fool Capitol of America (Red Sox Fans)Originally posted by: Amorphus
I'm in MA. kid I knew, lived in like a 3200 sq ft. house. family sold the house, moved to cali (his dad got a job there), and the best they could do with the money from selling their house was like a 1500(?) sq ft townhouse.
on a related note, California has also turned him into a tool. :disgust:

Prices may stagnate a little, or hopefully a lot, but housing prices rarely go down.

So how exactly does a person buy a house in california? How can a person qualify for a ~300K mortgage, when they make around $50K?
Originally posted by: CChaos
I don't know the answer either. I'm very close to the point where I need to start looking seriously. Even with an ok down payment and pretty good interest rate, I'm just now sure how we can swing the mortgage payment on even a $300k house. So, we are looking at $250k condos. If we go much lower, we would be looking in some bad neighborhoods. Even then, with common charges, insurance and PMI it's going to be a bitch. This is for ~1100 square feet.
