Now they're backing down, once again Drumpf's minions will claim it was due to their orange messiah.

What do you then attribute to their backing down?

Trump goes on Twitter, breaking with those in the GOP who sought to push this through, and it becomes a lightning rod of negative press and results in their backing down.

There was a ton of negative press before Trump threw his hat in the ring.
But as the defacto leader of the party, is it not his role to steer policy?

Removing oversight was not part of his platform, and this foolishness and overeach by the GOP would be a distraction from Trump's Obamacare, trade and immigration agendas.

Their backing down is a good thing. Trump deserves some credit for questioning it.

'Calling racists racist is the reason Trump won' is the most tiresome concern troll.

Did you just write me off as a troll?

I made a valid point. A large number of posters in this thread are hateful. While hate is not racism, it is irrational and unproductive.

I have to say that I would prefer people who understand that speech is much less important than action over bulshevik defense rhetoric.

Do yourself a favor and read Trump's actual remarks. He basically said that this needs to be done just not first priority. HashtagDrainTheSwampLOLz

Nothing is productive with conservatives. Nothing. Short of a life-changing event, that is.

You know, I try not to think this way, but I cannot blame anyone who does. I see the election of Trump as a great big middle finger to the people who are working for civil rights, the middle class and the poor, LGBT rights, accountability in government, etc. etc., basically every value I hold.

And not just 'effectively' a middle finger, but deliberately a middle finger. There's a handmade sign that says "Trump - Winner" stapled on telephone pole 10 feet up near my house in PA. I've never seen the winning side so anxious to rub the other side's faces in it. They are full of contempt and hate for us, for no reason at all, and I just don't blame anyone that throws their hands up and says 'fuck me? fuck you'.
someone went through the trouble of making 100s of "Lost" flyers and stapled them al over my neighborhood...

With a picture of hillary clinton on the flyer..

I try not to think of the election as a great big middle finger to THOUGHTFUL people from the deplorables of America...but the contempt, bigotry, and yes, racism is real coming from the Trump supporters.

own it.

Hey, can we be reasonable? Not to excuse the serious, systemic problems with Trump or the Republican party -- they're slaves to oil/guns/telecoms/the religious right. However, I want to make a distinction between conservatism (not that I'm even a conservative) and the Republicans. There are intelligent conservatives out there, they just get drowned out by Trump and the current core of the GOP.

I read his tweet.
"as unfair as it may be" does not sound like "needs to be done"

Intelligence has nothing to do with it. The more intelligent they are the better they are at torturing logic to preserve their ego.

That is a sweeping negative generalization about a pretty diverse field of people.

Just about everyone believes in some sort of ideological or technical progression, and some sort of conservation of ideas or institutions.

Do you understand the ideas you claim to be so fervently against?

Yes, it is a sweeping negative generalization. The difference is that I recognize when I am making such generalizations whereas a conservative will only recognize it when it is negative against them. When they are making sweeping generalizations against, say ... I don't know ... take Muslims maybe for example, suddenly sweeping generalizations backed up by statistics are valid logic.

Yes, I realize I just made another generalization.

That statement was inaccurate. You do not know what the majority of conservatives believe or even do.

Are you willing to let a strong opinion warp your view of reality? If so, why do you think your viewpoint is worth sharing?

Edit: Removed inflammatory remark.

So you think he meant that we should keep this unfair thing around for good?
I think he sent a message.

Removing Congressional oversight is not a priority nor is it sensible, but in calling it unfair, he also signalled a willingness to revisit it after and only after Congressional Republicans prioritize his agenda.

I am glad he put an end to such irresponsibility.

That's right, I don't know. That's why I have to take the word of 16 20 peer-reviewed papers that tell us how self-identified conservatives and liberals generally think.
