Questioning need is very dangerous.

Why does anybody need to make more than a certain percentage over the adjusted cost of living for a particular area? Should we perhaps cap that so we do not endorse a perverse greed?

Why does anybody need genetic testing results?

Why does anybody need to live past 70?

I mean, just because we can ask those questions doesn't mean we should. How about you get out of my business!

Your argument supports individual ownership of plutonium, if money is the only barrier to access.

"Questioning need" is a necessary and responsible function of liberty. Stop being daft.

And just how do we shove it in their face other than having our representatives legislate against it?

But we can boycott! is simplistic bullshit simply because of our interconnectedness & the power disparities involved. I figure if we let this happen that it'll end up like pre-employment drug testing, a near universal thing in many industries.

Remember when the gun nuts tried to boycott Chiptole because Chipotle didn't want fat rednecks walking around their stores with rifles strapped to their backs?

How did that redneck boycott work out against the evil Chipotle corporation?

Guess it didn't matter enough to people.

You point to obscure examples of how it doesn't work for things people often don't care about.

What about the women's march? BLM? What about Arab Spring? Some might say it wasn't the people but it was actually Hillary that changed the face of the Middle East and North Africa during that time. You and I both know the truth though. People have power! Huzzah!

You can obviously see that once it starts being questioned, it is very difficult to put a stop to it. Hence why it shouldn't be questioned as a matter of principle.

That's exactly my point! You defend these egregious and criminal erosion of liberty by virtue of the assumption that "the people!" will obviously rise up and demand that these things don't happen...through the power of Boycott!

Well, I've got news for you, Wilson, and you are probably already well aware of this: For every loony idea you have that you think is supported by peers, there is another group, or several groups, of loons with other loony idea that simply don't care about your problems.

Where were "the people!" when a handful of sociopaths freely elected a fascist puppet to head this nation back in November? Well, they have been out protesting and boycotting whatever, but why is the fascist shitstain still in charge?

Because collectively we don't care enough yet. You are included in that collective. Maybe people really don't care enough about their genetic data being taken and used as in a discriminatory manner. In which case, the GINA law, is simply there because of a very loud minority? Why is that a good thing? Because you, as the minority, know better?

As for the Chipotle example though. What a private business does is their business. It would be abhorrent for government to get involved and tell businesses or individuals where guns may or may not be allowed.

People have the right to free association. If I only want to associate with white racist assholes then I have that right. If I want to make money with people I choose to associate with I have that right. What is not a right but a privilege is the ability to make money with those I choose to associate with and be personally indemnified by law from certain consequences of my actions by forming a corporation.

A corporation has no right to exist other than by being granted that right by the community under whose laws it operates. A business besides being formed to perform a service or task and make money for it's owners or shareholders should also benefit the community that allowed its legal existence.

If it fails to be a net benefit to the community it's right to legal existence can and should be revoked.

If the owner of a corporation wants to only hire (associate) with white, racist, genetically pure, employees who agree to restrictions on their speech and benefits then net reduction in freedom to the employees and community at large is a net negative. That corporation should not be granted legal protections.

In other words if "a corporation" wants all the freedoms individuals have then the owner should be risking their own money and property and not be incentivized by legal protections to make others less free.

Maybe they hadn't even considered it as a possibility, given that the whole thing falls well outside the bounds of common decency. Not that authoritarian types consider that sort of thing at all.
