-McCarthy yesterday night after house adjourned: Supposedly agrees that any Repub can call for a vote of no confidence.
His reasoning: If any of the 5 main holdouts wanted to call a vote, they can easily get the other 4 to join in.

The house really hasn't been about making deals for years now. It's been very tribal on anything of significance and the goal has been to obstruct and prevent the other side from getting a "win" of any kind. The 20 hold outs on the GOP side really are ok if government doesn't function at all. So, the same thing that has happened for decades. 1 party doesn't have a majority in congress or the Presidency and gridlock is the result.Bottom line here is even if McCarthy manages to drag this over the finish line eventually he will preside over the most dysfunctional majority in recent decades. He'll be the weakest speaker in my lifetime. It will be absolutely impossible to do anything without 30 or so Democrats supplying votes.
