If some "moderate" republicans (moderate in quotes because let's face it - there are no true moderate Republicans any more) want to cross the aisle and give Democrats some substantial concessions in order for a speaker to be installed, then the offer could potentially be considered.
What I keep trying to figure out is ‘if not McCarthy then who?’ and I can’t come up with any good answers. This leads me to think it will eventually be McCarthy but he will be incredibly weak.Republicans sitting in Biden won districts would likely at a minimum be willing to entertain terms if this keeps up for a while. I don't think this is the most probable outcome but might rise if the holdouts simply won't agree on anyone the rest of the caucus could vote for.

A lot of the other candidates seem crazy to me. Like for example it’s not going to be Trump. Not only could he not win the vote, I see no indication he’s even remotely interested in the job.

and mccarthy loses 6th round6th vote is now.
4 repubs have already voted for Florida Republican Byron Donalds (again)
# I Needs more popcorn
Doesn’t matter at this point. As long the candidate has a backbone, its an improvement. And once he gives up this vanity project and removes his name for consideration, they can test the waters with the next choice. Obviously that vote will fail, then the next candidate. Better to try 6 votes on different people than the same spineless one failure after failure after failure. What I keep trying to figure out is ‘if not McCarthy then who?’ and I can’t come up with any good answers. I don't think McCarthy can afford to make a deal with Dems to win. I think he would almost instantly be voted back out by his own party.I don't think there is any way McCarthy wins unless he grants MAJOR concessions to the Ds and they give him 6 votes. More likely it ends up being someone like Scalise or Stefanik.
If McCarthy actually agrees to major concessions to the Democrats, he's going to need ~15+ votes from the Dems, as no way he'll get back any of the 20 Rs voting against him now, and may even lose more with even talk of any such concessions.I don't think there is any way McCarthy wins unless he grants MAJOR concessions to the Ds and they give him 6 votes. Nah. It's like Lucy and the damn football. If McCarthy actually agrees to major concessions to the Democrats, he's going to need ~15+ votes from the Dems, as no way he'll get back any of the 20 Rs voting against him now, and may even lose more with even talk of any such concessions.
And the Dems better get such concessions in a legally binding contract backed by hard assets in escrow (like the largest Republican super-PAC accounts)
This is why we need to end political gerrymanderingLol NC representatives says his office is receiving calls 10:1 in favour what is going on
Oooh they can nominate Trump in Primetime. This could be fun!Adjourned until 8PM
interesting till 8pm.Adjourned until 8PM
Probably to eat and refresh. I believe Democrats need to agree and it’s possible they are angling for an all nighter.interesting till 8pm.
wonder why 8pm instead of tommorow?
They wanted a dinner break. Bet they’ll let another 3 votes go before calling it for the nightinteresting till 8pm.
