Has anybody picked up on Sherman's pilgrimage to kiss The Don's ring?

Mike Johnson's Meeting With Donald Trump Raises Questions

The speaker of the House met the former president at his Mar-a-Lago resort, but no one knows what they discussed.
wait what?

What sway does Trump have over Mike? At least with McCarthy, he sucked/swallowed for Trump to become Speaker.
Did Trump have something to do with Mike being Speaker and now is calling in favors???

Have you not figured out that pretty much everyone in the GQP has to suck up to Trump?

Yeah, someone should test that godawful looking orange corpse paint he wears. It obviously has some sort of addictive qualities given how willing all of his minions are to suck it off his ass.

Well, it's official. The least productive congressional year in decades. Fuckin republicans and trump.

Just a small note, that article is 10 years old... although that was a good prior example of an obstructionist Republican held house during a Democratic Presidency & Senate. Although the Republicans were at least pretending to be sane back then (mostly).

Edit: I was curious how current 118th congress was doing...and it is downright ugly compared to that history of actually doing something:
Vetoed: 5 House Performative resolutions
Enacted: 10 House-originated bills (actually passed & enacted)
Enacted: 7 Senate-originated bills (passed & enacted)
Passed: 2 joint resolutions

+/- about 17 total bills enacted in first year of 118th congress, including ceremonial actions, makes that obstructionist 113th congress look absolutely productive!

Here's 4 out of the total of 17 "critical" laws enacted during 2023 by our 118th Congress:
1) To designate the clinic of the Department of Veterans Affairs in Indian River, Michigan, as the "Pfc. Justin T. Paton Department of Veterans Affairs Clinic".
2) A bill to designate the clinic of the Department of Veterans Affairs in Gallup, New Mexico, as the Hiroshi "Hershey" Miyamura VA Clinic.
3) To require the Secretary of the Treasury to mint coins in commemoration of the 250th Anniversary of the United States Marine Corps, and to support programs at the Marine Corps Heritage Center.
4) To amend the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 to clarify that the prohibition on the use of Federal education funds for certain weapons does not apply to the use of such weapons for training in archery, hunting, or other shooting sports...

I thought that it has already come up in this thread that Johnson is associated with a particular extremist Christian-supremacist group - and in turn that group has been pretty close to Trump?

The movement sounds almost exactly analogous to the fundamentalist Islamist groups - including the way it infiltrates 'mainstream' groups of worshippers and spreads its own anti-democratic theology.

NC_BowTieBoi the Interim Guy says he's not running for a new term.

CA_Kevin the Tossed Out Guy says he's out.

LA_Johnny the Orange Guy has some new allegations.

How many rings can a circus have?

I'm really hoping that this is his payback (a giant FU) to the those who threw him out. Between Santos and him, that's 2 less majority votes for them to get anything passed. You can forget impeachment.

Take a look at the last 4 Republican Speakers of the House and how things went for them.

It takes a literal masochist to run for and serve as a Republican Speaker of the House. Just look at the current Speaker and tell me he doesn't get off being humiliated.

I'm only surprised that McCarthy wasn't elected Speaker and then kicked out again ,before resigning or not running for re-election. And to be honest, this scenario might have happened had the current fascist not been elected Speaker.

What’s funny/sad is all this misery is self inflicted due to their insistence of electing the speaker with only Republican votes.

They could neuter the freedom caucus whenever they wanted by simply making a deal where the chamber as a whole elects the speaker and getting a majority that way. You know, the way it’s supposed to function.

The majority of them are the freedom caucus now!

So CA law says there must be special election within 140 days.
And mcarthy's district is a Red stronghold.
so the R's will only be down 1 vote for around 4 months.

Special election for Santos's seat is Feb 13.

edit:
4 months.

Exactly. Plus the 140 day clocks starts after Newsom announces the new election which can be up to 14 days after the vacancy which won't happen until he actually leaves. The election could be as early as May 7 and as late as June 4th.

Edit: forgot leap year which makes June 4th 141 days from the latest announcement. Since May 28th is invalid (May 27 is a state holiday), thus May 21st is the latest legal date.
