It looks like he's eventually going to get the votes. As I understand it. these are the concessions made to the MAGA gang FC:

1. Only one House member needed to file a motion to “vacate the chair”
2. Freedom Caucus members having a few seats on the House Rules Committee that will allow those members to leverage certain criteria behind voting for bills.
3. Voting on a bill setting term limits for members of Congress
4. Individual votes on each of the 12 appropriations bills and excluding earmarks from such bills
5. A vote on legislation surrounding border security
6. 72-hour notice from release of legislation before voting on it
7. A vote on a balanced budget amendment

This is a shitshow to which I don't know how it proceeds forward. So ... I'm wondering ....How binding are the concessions McCarthy has agreed to with the MAGA nuts. What is/are the likely results if he reneges on any/all of them if he takes office? Can they just vote him out? If McCarthy reneges on his promises the gang of 5 or 7 or 20 or whatever can vote against them and we’re back to a shit show? Could enough Dems theoretically vote in favor of the rules in order to neuter the wackus maximus contingent? Although, one of those "rules" require a constitutional amendment.

I assume McCarthy’s promises aren’t binding, but anything that gets written into the House rules is, at least until a majority votes to change the rules - and lots of luck getting a majority of this House to agree on anything.

Color me confused. I find the idea of Kevin McCarthy Speaker of the House completely horrifying. What I don't understand is why ~20 (or whatever) GOP House members who are, it's said, hardline conservatives, more conservative than the rest (?) are staunchly opposed to him being Speaker. Do they want someone worse???

Strongly suspect that this is going to be the coin minting year.

If you could stop looking and acting like a less masculine version of Louie Gohmert, that would be good.

Weak sauce, and bitter. Better wander back off to CPUs. Posers like you, certainly the unoriginal ones, don't do well here.

Are you going to address the glaring bitchslap you just received? If you could stop blubbering like a big floppy vagina, that would be good. Where's all the concern of money pre Biden? Prove me wrong, I'm ok with it.

McCarthy has announced that he intends to win tonight. Flipped 15 holdouts supposedly.

Wait.. 1 house member can call vote no confidence, not just 1 repub?

Omg... Dems should call a no confidence vote weekly!
The one member gets to request a vote of the whole house to remove the speaker. Not one member.

I can’t speak for his contributions to the CPU forum but he’s seemed perfectly reasonable here.

Bottom line here is even if McCarthy manages to drag this over the finish line eventually he will preside over the most dysfunctional majority in recent decades. He'll be the weakest speaker in my lifetime. It will be absolutely impossible to do anything without 30 or so Democrats supplying votes.
And if he takes a single dem vote to replace a Republican they'll no confidence him.

Well, fundamentally, this group:
(1) Are neo-fascist, and don't generally support democracy
(2) Believe the entire federal government should basically be eliminated, with all funding diverted instead to the military
(3) Are basically ideal Russian puppets, tearing down America, and aligned with Putin's social agenda (including open season to hunt the gays, fake religion only in support of political power, and pro-genocide of Ukraine)

I didn't spend long looking at them but he did seem far more informed on silicon than current events, hence the advice. Have you seen his other posts in this forum? I found the vilification of Robert Reich most amusing.

McCarthy, much as I loathe the guy, has the overwhelming support of his party so the party wanting nothing to do with him doesn't seem reasonable to me, no. I didn't bother looking to see if he cared about the 1.7 trillion Trump and Co. didn't pay for in 2017, lost interest but have a hunch. I was just curious, hoping to see the same, hell any, concern for trillions as there was for billions.

Also, how dare he disparage my aspagaragas

It's like McCarthy is only interested in getting the title, for however long he can keep it. He's basically neutered whatever power he might have, he'll either be gone soon or an errand boy for nutjobs only concerned with the true mastermind of Jan 6th: Hunter Biden's dick.

Watch him get trolled tonight, lose by16 votes. I do hope they wrap it up soon, I can only watch so much self flagellation.

Yeah. I was a bit confused/befuddled by that vilification of Robert Reich.

Made. no. sense.

Yeah I’m hoping that 3 say they’ll vote present. The first 2 do. That last one stays off the floor until the end and votes Mickey Mouse

All of these predictions that there are principles this or that side of the Republican Party will never allow themselves to abandon strike me as hopeless wishful thinking. All of them look to me to have already abandoned any glimmer they have any self respect. All of them will and already have sold their souls to the devil in my opinion. They will all finally agree to the most mutually palatable bucket of swill each can manage to negotiate for each.

We’ve seen this play before. I am confident McCarthy will pull it off however I wouldn’t be surprised if a handful of the turds change their mind last second and vote No thus starting the whole affair all over again.
