I'm going to be rewiring my house within the next week or so and I need a good cable management solution. I have already cut all the cable, but I need a way to keep it organized.

Does anyone know of a product that I can somehow attach to a wall or ceiling that has some sort of "hook" that can hold onto cable? I would buy a bunch of these and run cable along the corners where ceiling meets wall.

Thanks

You can use raceway or some type of crown molding to hide your cable running along the corner where ceiling meets wall. Crown molding, obviously, will look better, but will be much more expensive. Best way to go is through the wall/crawlspace.

Sorry if I wasn't too specific. I don't need a patch panel or anything at the networking closet, I just need something to discreetly hold cables throughout the house.

Here's a pic of what I have in my head: http://pics.bbzzdd.com/users/mzinz/housecables.jpg

Imagine that the left side is my switch+patch panel and all of the cables run out the doorway into the hall - I need a way to keep them organized and hold them up where the ceiling meets the wall. This way they will be inconspicuous and look clean. The "L" shaped hooks in black are what I'm trying to find. Something probably small and made of plastic that could either stick or screw into the wall - doesn't have to be heavy duty _at all_, just enough to hold a few cables in place.

Any more ideas? Thanks guys

Nothing will really look clean other than running them inside the wall. But since you probably don't want to go through all of that...

Buy a roll of Velcro. Not the kind that has Adhesive on it, just a roll of velcro that is soft/fuzzy on one side, and has the hard hooks on the other.
Cut pieces of velcro that are long enough to wrap around however many cables you want to hold.
Use a Staple Gun to staple that piece of velcro to the ceiling or wall. One piece every 4 - 6 feet.
Run the cables across the velcro and then wrap it around them so it sticks to itself.

You might even be able to find some white or colored velcro (instead of black) so that it blends better with your ceiling/wall.

Edit:
Velcro like this: http://www.pchcables.com/25foblvero.html
Not suggesting you buy from there...I don't know anything about that retailer. That's just an example.

I use these caddy CATCR50 quite often; they are handy when you dont have all the wire ready to go up, since they are easily opened up to add more wire.

They have nice fishmouth openings and wide surface area to prevent high pressure points on the wiring.

Look into panduit. It's like conduit, but flat and runs up and down walls. If installed in the right places, it will be less noticable. It's a tray system that allows you to snap a cover over your cables so you can't see them. There are all kinds of attachments and color options. If you've got white or beige walls, it should be easy to match.

There are metal options as well. Check your local electrician supply store and see what they have to offer....Lowes and Home Depot also have similar products to offer for those who want to run cable without having to drill through walls.

Using clips and hangers is bad practice because they can pinch cables and cause more pressure points that may encourage breaks in the cable. It's unlikely in the short-run and panduit won't solve the problem...it just has fewer pressure points...basically only where you have 90 degree turns.
