i have a housemate that has no respect/consideration for others (leaves trash all over living room table and kitchen, turns the tv and music on full blast, etc...)

anyway, we are living in an apartment that has 1 room that is EXACTLY double the size of the other.

we agreed he would stay in the large room during the first semester, and i would have it the second semester.

well, after politely hinting that i wanted to switch rooms this semester many times, and then arguing with him after 2 weeks into the 2nd semester, he agrees to switch the next weekend.

well...the next weekend rolls by and i get all my stuff out to help switching rooms go faster, and he does NOTHING

currently, we both pay $450/month

what do you think would be a fair adjustment (please consider his outright breaking of the agreement and he showed no signs/effort in trying to move out)

thanks for your thoughts!

<< Time for you to find another roommate. >>

roger that, find another place to stay w/ out him knowing you are looking, and then once you find him, tell him uyou are moving ut unless things change. that leaves it up to him: tell him to have his stuff moved by the end of the week, or he will have quite a hefty bill to pay by himself for the apartment

i am glad i will only be living with him for 2 more months. also, just to add, after arguing him about switching rooms, for some reason, he has given me a cold look for a month afterwards.

He is a tool, plain and simple. Chalk it up to experience, and live alone if you can next year.

Well, it would be nice if he coughed up an extra $150 for rent for every month he has been in the big room when it wasn't his turn. I have a feeling that getting several months worth of this money out of him will be like squeezing blood from a turnip.

if he's not decent enough to honor your agreement about switching rooms, i don't see anyway he's going to fork over more than $450 either...

Well, unless you're planning on living with him for a while longer, I can't really tell you what to do . . ..

I have the same exact problem with my roommate - I have 3 - one of them, Tom, is the scummiest asswipe of a roommate I have ever had (and I've had roommates who used to see a shrink and take medication - a whole different story) - :|

-He doesn't do the dishes after using our silverware/dishes (the rest of us do - and he didn't bring a damn thing so we can't use our stuff because of him):|

-He leaves his crap out on the living room (we don't) = one time, he left out about 20 library books, all overdue for a couple of months, and didn't return them until the end of the semester . . ..:|

-He throws parties at the very last second without telling any of us every other week:|

-And he doesn't clean up after them (my roommates do it for him) = one time, a friend of his, a freshman girl, passed out from drinking too much - puked all over the place - so my roommates put her in his room whiel he left for a different party - what does he do when he gets back? He sleeps on the couch for a couple days, then finally does the laundry . . ..:|

-He almost manages to get us evicted by throwing a kegger, and our apartment gets slapped with a $500 fine.:|

-To add onto that, he won't listen to me when I nag him about crap he should already be doing - and flicks me off behind my head of mutters "fvck you" while he'd turned around like a little pvssy . . ..:|

I swear, I'm developing an ulcer because of this motherfvcker, and every one of my friends are saying kick his ass, and I'm tempted to, really, but that'd be a bad example to the kids I teach, so I can't . . ..

The worst thing is, my other roommates signed him up without my consent. Next semester, he'd best pray that I don't see him on the streets.

do you mean $150 more than me, or $450+150=$600
and i would pay $300

i need to show him what other people think since he is a person that is so focused on his opinion, that he does not even realize that he is inconsiderate

Your roomy is walking all over you because he knows he can. He perceives you as a wimp who has no gonads to stand up for his rights. Apparenrly, so far, he is right.

Why don't you quit whining and stand up to the oaf? Kick his as$ or throw it out. Do something!

I have no sympathy for you.

I mean he would pay $600 and you would pay $300. If the room is twice as big, then why not? Realisitcally, you could ask him to pay like $500 or $550 and you could pay the balance. Also, don't plan on getting the back rent for the time when it wasn't his turn. You don't want to make your situation a living hell until you move out. It isn't worth it.

Go to the utility panel and shut off electricity to his room.

Kick his flimsy ass - the only reason I can't is because I'm in three martial arts, and like I mentioned, I teach kids in one style - and I also know the head of the disciplinary committee on campus grounds . . . outside of work. And I don't want to put him in an awkward place.

That's why all my friends are giving me such a hard time - they're either working out with me or know that I'm in that kind of stuff - "dude, why the hell are you taking this sh!t if you can't dish it out?!" :|

Sigh, I can't win . . .. :frown:

buy some condoms squirt some lotion in them and throw 3 on his bed and 3 in front of his door

then leave a note on his door saying if he doesn't clean up you'll invite his mom over again

i thought he was my friend, but i never knew he could be so inconsiderate
i don't even tell him to clean up his stuff or turn down the tv/music ever, since i know he would say:
"you can't make me do anything"
that's the excuse he gave me when i argued with him in switching rooms

huh, just like EVERy roommate I've ever had. That's why I live ALONE! No one to answer to, except me!
Hey al least your roommate dosen't eat your food, and you ask him why, and he says - 'because I can't eat high priced electronics that you bring home'. Dude, every roommate is gonna p!ss the other off at one time or another. Do what I did, when he goes to work MOVE OUT on his a$$, and leave your rent money, and bill money in an envelope with the keys, and just a 2 word note that says 'Thank You'. Worked for me, I never gotta deal with that guy again!

Get a pair of rubber gloves and some super glue. While he is asleep glue his peewee to his belley so when he pees it hits him in the chin.
