Houston we have a problem!

My Windows Live Mail (running in Windows 10 Home Premium) was locking up and I have to log off then back on to get my email.

I decided to remove the Windows Live Essentials and re-install to hopefully solve the problem.

Here is the PROBLEM!

The installation starts normally, proceeds with the green stripe going back and forth, I am not installing anything but MAIL of the Windows Live Essentials package. As the installation continues appearing to be normal installation, however!! When the installation is complete, it says “DONE”! You can now use the program.

I open PROGRAMS, it is not there, I open Control Panel, choose Programs and features and it is not there either. I does show up in Program Files (X86), I choose the wlmail.exe and “ZERO ZIP NADA”!!!

I just completed a 2 ½ hour REGISTRY EDIT removing all traces of the “WINDOWS LIVE ESSENTIALS, Live mail, wlmail.exe the registry would allow!

There are several entries the registry would not allow to be removed.

Do you have any suggestions before I attempt to re-install the MAIL only portion of the Windows Live Essentials?

What's an alternative ? Web mail never interested me much since I use a desktop. Try a client like Thunderbird

Ditto on Thunderbird. I used it replacing my mom's old outlook 2007 and it works far better plus receives regular updates.

One more vote for Thunderbird. I'm not sure if it still updates, but it still works. I've had it working seamlessly since XP and several generations of Microsoft email clients and had to change nothing while microsoft users had to adopt.
I'm currently on Win7, so can't comment about Win8 and up.

They aren't part of mozilla anymore, and development's slacked off. They still fix bugs, and gui changes are in the works, but without a ton of developers, this stuff goes slow. Bonus is if they aren't changing stuff, they aren't breaking stuff. I'm good with Tbird as is, and I gave them a bit of money this year. I only use webmail if I absolutely have to. It's a terrible experience, and if your net's down, all your email is gone. I want my stuff kept locally. Server backup's fine. but I need it on my machine primarily.

Words to live by. I have auto updates off everything whenever I can. When the mood strikes me, and I have time, I update. I good backup just in case, but I haven't had to use it.
