How about an Epson 1200U scanner for $100?

Called J and R, when my out of the box 1200U failed to move the light bar when it was unlocked. Called Epson, and they tried to fix over phone, but something happened in shipment. So when I called J and R, they said that they were out of stock, and if I returned it they could not give me another. The guy even said that a yesterday he was on the phone with a guy that had ordered 100 of them. He said that they were only able to give him 1. Anyway I took my 1200U into the Epson authorized place here in Southern Cal, at Avalon and Domniquez, and they had it fixed in an hour. No charge... But the dust is killing me...

Need to follow a fix for this, or call my guy who fixed it, and get a suggestion...for cleaning. I did ask him how to open it, in case after the year warranty I needed to do things myself, and he said make sure you are clean and working in a clean area. Guess he new his dust problems...

I emailed Epson, they said the dust problem is covered under warranty, you can get it cleaned at an authorized repair center. Hope this helps.

I just checked Sunday @ 7:00 CST (2nd half of Superbowl) and it seems like they took down the Epson 1200U scanner. It's not posted there anymore.

The scanner is fast, but whenever I insert a picture from the scanner to Word, it got enlarged. How to keep the scanned image at 1:1 ratio? I set the scale to 100%, but no good. I just want to scan the UPCs at keep it at the original size. Any idea? Thanks.

The reason I said it is open box because the LOCK got mark on it, looks like it was used. Was your looked like that when you get it?

Well, I've scanned a few pictures with my Epson Perfection 1200U scanner from J And R. The first 3 pictures I scanned, I discovered the notorious &quot;dust&quot; problem. The first 2 pictures were fine, but when I scanned the 3rd, a photo at the beach with lots of light, overcast sky, I found numerous seagulls flying in the sky. However, upon checking the original photo, I noticed the only birds in the sky were the couple standing on the lightpost!

I've found ways to get around that. Like finding a less dusty part of the scanner or taking two scans and editing out the blotches, but it's rather irritating to have to do that. The question is if it's worth the trouble taking it in to an Epson service center. Since Epson had problem keeping the dust out, I wonder if the service center does a better job in a dust free environment. Anyone that's taken it in for cleaning have any comments on this?
