Power went out last night at midnight, sump pump quit. Bailed water with the landlord for a couple hours until the power came back on. High trim was the heating element on the water heater, so we had to keep it a few inches under that. Normal folks get a few inches of water in the basement when the sump pump quits... our basement fills up (not a finished basement mind you, only dirt and foundation). Orange county NY BTW.

I'm tired.

Does the basement have a toilet with a floor flange? If so, take that off and watch how fast the water disappears.

EDIT2: probably not with dirt floor - ugh. Perhaps its time to get a genny.

Against my wishes the contractor decided to dig 5 deep holes last week.

Suffice to say I now have a scale model of the Great Lakes here.

I figure about a week to get control of the water.

Moving sound recording gear was not fun yesterday in Windham County, CT. I got so pissed off i went to bed at 2230

Sunday morning was a hail storm. Then really high winds picked up in the afternoon. Trees crashing down. Power out all over by about 8pm

Office downtown got power about 8-9 am (coming and going still). No power at all at home (it's freakin cold).

Still have high winds (60-70 mph), trees still crashing down. Lot of rescue work and fire dept calls. Downed lines causing the fires etc. Rescue calls are for people who've had trees fall on their house etc.

Most traffice signals are out, my secretary/preparer just had to leave, husband was in car wreck because someone ran through a "dead" traffic light. She had to go to the emergency room, etc.

This blows. We're tax accountants, it's stressful enough as is trying to get clients done (file or estimate) without this BS.

I hope the IRS gives us some extra days. I've clients with big payments due stuck in airports around the country. Looks doubtful they'll get back in time to send in the extensions with checks on time, etc.

Quite a bit of water in my basement. Thankfully the wind never got as bad as predicted and we never lost power. If my sump pumps went down I would have been in deep trouble. Even with the pumps running full blast they barely keep even with the incoming flood.
