Parents don't own one, I don't own one, friends' parents own some but none of my friends do themselves, aunts and uncles all pretty much own automatics, at least the ones that I'm close to.

So how am I ever going to learn? :|

Well why do you need to learn if no one arround you owns one? But even if you ever do need to drive one, it really doesn't take that long to learn. I learned in under a day and could drive one well in less than a week.

Not sure. I have a few friends with manual transmission cars, so I could just use theirs if I wanted to learn (not that I particularly care to learn right now though).

Yes, I realize this doesn't help you at all.

I wouldn't want to buy one without knowing how to drive it first, I may not prefer it over an automatic. I'd like to know which I'd prefer first. With all the traffic lights and stop-and-go driving I experience, I may just prefer an automatic anyway.

And yes, I don't really NEED to know how to drive one right now, I just feel it's something any man should know how to do.

Yes you can. You can't become Michael Schumacher in one day, but you can drive around town just fine, unless maybe you live in San Francisco.

My sister "taught" me, but I didn't really *learn* to drive stick until I actually bought a car with one in it.

Almost a year now, and I'd never go back to automatic.

I learned how to drive stick in about 30 minutes. I sucked at it, but I was able to drive around. I hated it tho, I'll stick with auto thank you very much I'm not a "driver" as they say.

if by driving around town just fine you mean at 4 am when there is no traffic on the road and the weather is great then yes.

Yes you can, I did. It's really not hard like people think. You won't drive it the best that it can be driven, but you can learn in one day.

driving in san francisco sucks in general. I couldn't imagine going up those hills with my manual tacoma.

Hmm, everyone else seems to be able to do it. Maybe you're just slow.

Agreed. I learned how to 'drive' a manual in about an hour..albeit it was a jerky ride for the passenger. About 5 hours of driving time later, it's pretty smooth and getting smoother all the time.

Why don't you just ask one of your friends to ask their parents to teach both of you? wow

I love driving manual. You have all the control of the car

I learned pretty quick, the difficult part is learning how not to stall the motha just getting going, and then learning that you need to shift to second *RIGHTFVCKINGNOW*.

Me to dad, 3 years ago: "Why the hell is there a first gear at all?"

Seriously, every MT vehicle I've driven has bounced off the limiter at a whopping 15mph.

Also amusing is starting on loose surfaces.
