Considering getting a 5s on Verizon. Is there an easy way to bypass carrier tether blocks like Android? This is a must for any phone I get since I use it as my home internet.
Works fine in Canada. Dunno about a Verizon locked phone.
On Rogers (and Fido), any plan with 1 GB or more automatically includes tethering support at no extra charge, whether you want it or not.If your carrier allows it. I know Rogers has/had specific tethering enabled plans.
The OP's question has already been answered several times.no one directly answers OP's question though. I am in the same boat.
Can you jail break the iPhone 5S and tether away with unlimited data without paying $30/month extra? Does jail break automatically bypass carrier's detection? Better yet, anyone tried it with unlimited data plan?
You can do it with FoxFi on Android without root.

Until it's jail broken, no.
So there is no Jail Break at the moment and there may never be.
Does Jail Break automatically bypass carrier's detection?
Is there an alternate solution similar to Android's FoxFi?
These are questions that OP need answer to.
Without a jailbroken device, you're limited to the carriers official way of tethering. Once it's jailbroken, there are apps that will let you bypass the carriers methods to create a hotspot, like MyWi.
I'm curious. With the US carriers, how are the official carrier's ways of tethering limiting?
In Canada, I just have a "Personal Hotspot" option in the settings, which works with WiFi to create a WiFi hotspot, although I can tether via Bluetooth or a USB cable too.
Considering he says he's using it as his home internet connection, I'm going to go out on a limb and say he's got unlimited data.
I believe it's actually $30/mon for unlimited tethering. Verizoners correcto me if I am wrong.
Ours are $20. But ours are still for 3G devices, it might be different for 4G devices. But it's definitely capped at 2GB for our 3G hotspots.
