How are Palit video cards these days?

I bought a Palit card out of desperation when the 8800GT was more scarce, and in terms of build quality it's fine. But I think that's true of all the reference cards.

Back when I bought it just a couple of months ago, their warranty policy was to send it back to Hong Kong, (unless you bought it from a reseller, in which case they instructed you to deal with the reseller), but now they've updated their website with an actual RMA form. Maybe you still have to send it to Hong Kong, I don't know, but all things equal, given a choice I wouldn't choose a Palit over an XFX or EVGA.

My 1 Gig one just showed up, I'm very impressed with the heastink construction, it hit all the memory chips and seems to be attached well. I'd say its better than the Zaleman, easily a $60 value that you dont have to spend to help keep the temps down. I didn't have anything to really stress the card, but WoW went from ~37 fps on raids to ~120.

I had to buy oblivion to see how it runs ... flawless, haven't made it outside yet. but at High settings the display is beautiful at 1680X1050, with a 2nd display at the same resolution.

I had A palit 7300GT 256 MB. I overclocked it from 350MHZ(both core and memory) to 600Mhz core and 500mhz memory! But then the fan failed. Since I had bought from a reseller I got it replaced and I got a 512MB version it's been working fine. I can overclock it to 597mhz core and 444mhz memory.

Palits RMA dept is Asia so RMAing from the states may be troublesome. I have owned a few Gainward cards and they all were of very high quality. Palit and Gainward are made by the same people as well.

I didn't know that.. Gainward had pretty good quality cards...

I made this thread because I was buying either the Palit 8800GT with the aftermarket cooler for $400 or the XFX Alpha Dog 8800GT for $440. Wanted the XFX because of company of heroes but it isn't worth $40 + it only has a stock cooler..... (This was in New Zealand Dollars)

doesn't really signify anything. ECS makes a ton of motherboards for other big name brands, but their own budget m/b's are still generally crappy.

It appears now-a-days that alot of video companys simply go with reference cards or rebadge another video manufactors card.
