How are refurbished iPOD?

Did anyone here bought a refurbished iPOD? I am interested in one, but was wondering if there's any cosmestic defects. People told me that they replace everything and looks like new. Is this true?

Can someone enlighten me what refurbished is?
Sorry.. I don't live in the US and I'm not really familiar with the concept. Is it like someone gets let's say an iPod, but has second thoughts and decides to take it back even though it's perfectly okay and works with no problems? Or maybe he sees a problem and returns it, but the company can't reproduce the issue so it places it for sale again?

Its broken or damaged and its sent to the company, reboxed and sold at discounted price. THe nice thing is they test these things so you have less of a chance of getting a damaged one then you do buying new.

I got one, it came looking BRAND NEW. The case had a little junk inside of it but that might have been from packing or whatever (I mean the belt clip case btw, not the unit). Everything else looked factory, and I really like it a lot. It's made college a lot easier to bear between classes!

Refurbs can be the customer changing their mind and shipping a perfectly working product back, or they can have some parts that need to be repaired/replaced. They live up to standards of a new product (with a possible exception being the cosmetics), and they are then sold refurbished.

In the case of the ipods, they look completely new, supposedly. On the other hand, my refurb belkin folding kbrd worked but had some minor scratches on the lid (in normal use, it gets scratchy anyway, so I don't care).

I bought a refurb ipod from Apple last year. Everything looked and performed brand new, right down to the shrinkwrapped cubed box, no scratches on the unit either. Note this is a factory refurb, and Apple appears to have set very high standards regarding the resale of their refurbs. Do not confuse this with what some places call "refurbs", when all they do is use a wet cloth to clean off old used junk, or resell a customer return without any regard to the quality of the contents.

Dont buy a refurbished video card, it might be overclocked too far like mine was. But if you get it from NewEgg you might get a new one as a replacement!

From comments near the end of this thread, it appears Apple has loosened up on their quality standards for refurbs. Many people are reporting scratched and scuffed cases and poor packaging.
