I too am looking at this card (oem version though), but for a business machine. I want to run 2 22" Acer Wide screens (ACER 22" AL2216WBD 1680X1050 700:1 DVI-D 5MS ) with this card at the monitors' native resolution of 1680x1050. Unfortunately I can't find a list of supported resolutions anywhere. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. Do you by chance have this info available to you?

I don't know the average price off hand, but 512MB of ram is overkill, especially on a 128bit interface.

Let me look around the $100 area and I'll let you know what I find.

The problem with your choice (To each his own of course) is you have 512MB of memory on a card where 256 would be overkill for it to address. To add more, your Memory Bandwidth is severely limited in the use of a 128bit Bus.

Besides, its a ddr2 card, even further limited mem. bandwidth.
Around 100 get the 7600GS, x1600XT/x1650PRO, make sure the ATI cards have ddr3.

If you want to be able to do some gaming on the latest games you should not get anything less than a ATI X1650XT or Nvidia 7600GT, more than 256mb not needed.

This is the same price, faster, and you can step-up to a 8600 series when that comes out.

ok, I have been looking around and came about these. a few of these are maybe a little more then what I would of liked to spend but I would rather get something where I wont have to upgrade for a bit.

In some situations the 7900gs is about twice as fast as the x1650 pro, so I would definitely go with one of those. As for the ECS model, I don't know much about it. You might want to consider paying a little more for a more reputable video card brand such as eVGA, which if I remember correctly, comes with a lifetime warranty.

Also what sort of gaming do you do? You say you want it to last, so be mindful of the new directx10 cards which are coming out in the upcoming months. The 8600Ultra will be a much better upgrade at $179 but you will have to wait a while. Also eVGA has a step up program as others have mentioned, so that 7600gt or a 7900gs from them might be the way to go.

ok, a question about the d10.

are they going to stop making games in d9?
will d10 games will be backward compatible??
if I have a d9 card, will d10 games still run??

also, how does the step up program work??

do they credit you for what the card is worth or what you paid for??

Not sure if they will stop making games in d9, though its possible for the future. But I wouldn't worry for another year or two. Also d10 games should be backward compatible for the near future, though your gonna have to consult a gaming expert on this one. Dunno. I could be wrong, but I think Microsoft is creating some sort of utility to allow backwards computability, since dx10

The step-up program works for 90 days. You have to register your card when you buy it, which must be from an approved seller, register it and then provide the invoice when you send it in. Then you are awarded the invoice price, less rebates and must pay the remainder of the price for the new card of higher value.

Rumors say first part of March -- about when R600 comes out. We'll see, though.

In any event, eVGA has a very nice lifetime warrantee, so buying from them is rarely a mistake.
