After doing some more research, I discovered a lot of people thought they were crap. In fact, ALL surround sound phones are crap, according to many.

So, now I'm debating whether I should get the Sennheiser HD515s, or spend more and get the Sennheiser HD555s. Anyone?

I do not like 5.1 headsets. They seem gimmicky why teh heck would you want
4 lil spks packed into each ear?
One gd spk for each ear will do and will probably be better for the price of 4 shitastic ones...
Using Sennheiser PC150 headset for gaming together with X-Fi CMSS -3D on, very gd.

One thing I miss is the vibrating bass feature some other headsets have, kinda nice for BF2 or CoD...example.

^link don't work for me.

Now I'm not sure whether to get the Sennheiser HD555s or Sennheiser 595s. Is it worth the extra £20 for the 595s, anyone?

EDIT: Look how bloody sexy the 595s look. That's the red limited edition though, which I can't get hold of in the UK

i have a pair of the turtle beach 5.1 headphones. they are okay, but they are mostly gimmicky. in the end i prefer my old technics dj phones, they are A LOT more comfy and sound a ton better, especially at the low end.

I have those Medusas and other 5.1 and they all suck. The Medusas sound the least suckiest but suck nonetheless. The sound leakage was too apparent and disturbed anyone in the same room even at a normal level. The "subwoofer" is just a rumble feature simular to rumble joysticks and can get really annoying at times. Just get a really good set of headphones and an X-FI card and you will get better surround results.

Thanks. Decided to get the HD555s at £60 delivered... I hope I made the right choice! Can't afford an X-Fi however, I hope they'll be good with my Audigy 2 Value.

Good recommendation, I have the same headphones and they rock for the price.

Go with something from one of the companies that specialize in headphones. Beyerdynamic, Sennheiser, AKG, Grado, etc. They all make entry level headphones that will sound fabulous with music and great for games, but most people don't know that they even exist.

Don't take it from me, though. Spend a couple of years on Head-Fi like I did and you'll see the light. I've owned about 2k worth of headphone equipment, so it's not like I'm just spouting random BS like so many like to do here.

Good choice. I've owned 2 pairs of the 595s and now I own the 555s...there is a difference but the average person isn't likely to notice it, plus your wallet will thank you.

The Sony MDR-V6 is very well regarded; you can read about them here. I own a pair and really like them but I'm more accustomed to the open sound of speakers, these are my first high-end headphones.

Guys, check out some real headphones here. Many of those in the sub-$100 range are so much better than what most people have listened to, it's not even funny.

Check out those $900 earbuds. Too bad those don't come stock with iPods, eh?

Sure many of those are overkill for most people here, but there are people that actually spend $4,000 on an amplifier to power their $1000 headphones. You may think they are nuts, but that's OK because I assure you they think we're nuts for spending $600 on a new graphics card.

I have had a set of Sony MDR-V6 for ~20 years and they still kick butt. I originally paid well over $100 back in the mid '80s but they can still be found for under 70. Dont confuse with the overpriced MDR-7506 which look just like the V6 but cost much more. Although I Normally hate Sony consumer audio products, the original V6 are still the industry standard and sound pretty damn good and can take a butt load of power. Sure I hade to replace the earpads a few times but nothing else ever broke on these things, same drivers, same cord (did replace the jack) but these babies were built to last. Look at any radio or news announcer on TV and you will STILL see them using the V6.

Sony MDR-7506 headphones are excellent, and somewhat a standard item in the recording industry--they are a favorite in recording studios, and I keep seeing them pop up on movie directors' heads during behind-the-scenes footage on my DVD's. They cost around $100 and are very crisp and accurate. I would get them from www.sweetwater.com

But if you have a puppy in the house, keep them elevated, or they'll be chewed to pieces like mine were /

Sony V6, grado SR-60, AKG-K240 are all very good headphones that are reasonably-priced. i'm using the sennheiser HD-497 which is a steal at $40 but they are discontinued.

Those are basically the V6 which can be found for 30-40 bucks cheaper. Minor diffrences are gold plated plug as opposed to silver on the V6.
