I depends...sometimes they cut them out. Sometimes they have to break them and pull the pieces out.

Perhaps this is a question for your oral surgeon or dentist

dont know, sat in the chair, went to sleep, woke up with a sore jaw.

they use acid and pour it around the edges ot the tooth to be pulled...once the acid sinks in enough, they just use a tweezer to pull it out. it's rather painless.

Joking. Jfano is correct.

Fancy pair of vice grips but the concept is the same. A lot depends on the root structure. Mine came out pretty easy, only had one pulled after it broke off a big piece. I would say, not a bad experiance at all. It didn't even touch a cornea transplant as far as unpleasant experiances go.

The dentist numbed that part of my mouth. I did not feel anything when he pulled the tooth. My mouth ached a little and seeped for a day or two.

yank em with big pliers most of the time. atleast thats my experience. if its still under the bone, then out comes the buzz saw. scary but painless

unlike drilling which can sometimes be painful

Scalpel, forceps, pliers, mallets, osteotomes, periosteal elevators, needle holders, retractors, mouth gags, and a few other do-dads.

Not all at once, but that is the tool-kit.

You shouldn't have asked the question. This is one of those things you don't want to understand or think about before it happens. You're best just going in and being surprised.

be sure to 'go under' instead of getting local anesthetic. it makes the whole procedure better.

I disagree... I was awake throughout the whole thing... all 4 teeth. He basically just numbed my whole mouth, cut the gums a bit on 2 of them, and then ripped them all out with a nice pair of pliers I felt like crap for a couple of days... but then it was all better

Shoot, I remember when I had my first two out. Man, that was painful. The bad thing is that I had to have the second two out about a year later.

Ok, so I didn't feel anything during the procedure. However, the crunching sound in my skull has never left me. Just thinking about it gives me chills. The pain after the procedure was really bad as well. I only got Ibruprofin which is good for some pain. However, for this operation, it wasn't that good. The second time around, I got Tylonol with Codine.

Overall, just stock up on things that are easy to eat. I drank a lot of milkshakes, ate pudding and jello.

Same for me, except he didn't cut my gum.

I had one impacted underneath the next tooth. They took a chisel and mallet and pounded on the tooth for about 3 or 4 minutes until it broke in half. Then pulled it right out.

I was awake for this as well, and I can tell you, even with the 9 shots of novacaine, it still hurt my jaw from the pounding.

Hrmm, well last Friday I had the two wisdom teeth in my upper jaw taken out and this upcoming Friday I'm scheduled for one of the lower ones. I suppose next week I'll have the remaining lower wisdom tooth out as well. The extraction of the two upper ones weren't too bad (already exposed), numb the area around the wisdom teeth and twist+pull with some sorta device. The lower ones are impacted so she'd have to cut them out. I look forward to some great weekends full of gauze! :|

This was the worst pain I have ever gone through, included a broken kneecap, and torn ligaments and lactic acid after running the 400 then the 800 in track and field, and including all of Xcountry races combined. I had only one done also, so I have to get the other three out, I have been waiting for 3 years but my teeth are starting to move into odd directions so I guess I have to do deal with it. I have impacted teeth, hope I don't die from the pain of all three, by the way I was in bed for a week on strong drugs, and it still hurt so bad that I couldn't move all I could do is sleep, the second week was better though. Good luck.
