Why these gas guzzlers are so popular is beyond me. They certainly have little practical value for most people.

I guess they are good for running other drivers off the road, Which happened to me last weekend. I couldn't see through its frosted windows, but I'm guessing that the driver was clutching a cell phoen.

Rip, I agree with you 100% that SUVs are typically not warranted. But, people do have the right to waste their money on overpriced SUVs and gas.

EDIT: On just so you know, I drive a Honda that I'm selling to get another 4 or 6 cylinder car. I do feel great when I spend $16 @ the pump every two weeks though, when I hear about Hummers spending $55.... yessss!

you know, people will complain about it but most will pay for the gas.

someone once told me. if your willing to pay 1buck for a bottle of water you can afford the gas....come on...it's friggin water!

well, anywho now when i fill up gas on my honda i dont complain much cause i waste money on stupid things also.

just my 2cents

It's practical for me when I used it for 4 years in Buffalo and for when I moved and had to haul fences back from Home Depot.

It's not going to be practical every single day, but it's great to have. Why shouldn't I have 4WD on demand and only when I need it? You're going to rip people like me because you had a bad experience ? Coulda happened with a minivan. I am still trying to keep from laughing at your cell phone argument.. as if "I notice only SUV drivers are always on cell phones the most" has any merit.

I also have a commuter car, as do a lot of SUV owners. My truck is a lot more comfortable than the Accord so I take it on weekend trips also. You want to talk about practical, there's a hell of a lot more to complain about than people and their cars.

They're broken by the extraordinary amount of crap they buy, not the added expense of $1000 which breaks the bank for them. People spend money they don't have - that's their problem, not the extra $5-8 a tank for gas everytime they fill up

i hate gas...its just a stupid concept. Something you buy at a consistent rate that will just run out over a period of time. Things that are consumable like gas and food should be free

We have one........Blazer.....gets 24mpg, so gas going up isn't huring too badly at present. And considering a LOT of "compact" and larger cars get the same mileage, they'll be crying as much as we will be, if we do cry that is.

But we use it for hauling....dogs, auction stuff, wood, just like a station wagon. We just like its height, not to mention that we live way out in the country and 1 mile down a rough dirt road and all the cars out here, including the "vaunted" Nissans and Hondas and Toyotas, all end up clunking, rumbling, rattling, clanking heaps. The truck based vehicles, though, seem to weather the road quite well. Case in point.......couple moved out here after building 6 months ago. He has a very cherry 280ZX. Well, it was quiet for a few months.......but now you can hear it rattling down the road just like all the other cars out here.

The advantage of the road is low traffic.........only the families with houses out here drive out here.

People that drive huge vehicles that can crush mine like a grape while they are chit chatting and not paying attention to what they are doing disturbs me greatly.

you do realize that most sports cars guzzle just as much gas as a SUV.

My V8 4x4 Explorer gets the same gas milage as my roomies G35 Coupe (manual) and my friends IS300, by your logic we should all be driving little cramped 4 bangers. Well i have news for you this is America not fvcking pinko france.

Hey don't get the wrong idea... that would concern me also, but did you know that talking to anyone even when they're sitting beside you is just as much a distraction ? Most of us drive with 1 hand anyway - didn't you see that ATOT poll we had ?

Unlikely, given the mode the current admin is in.

I have an Expedition. I cringe now with what I spend to fill it, but its no thing. I also have a Taurus. No cringing there. Thats also the daily driver. However, its great to have a vehicle with 4WD for inclement weather, to have a vehicle with room to haul stuff from Home Depot (My table saw would not have fit in the car, let alone the sheets of wood), its great to have something that can tow a trailer when needed (Such as when we moved intot he house) its great to have a vehicle that I can fit me, the wife, 3 kids and all our luggage in when we go on vacation and still be comfortable, its great to have a vehicle I can go off roading in (Such as to the beach, camping, hunting and fishing).
A SUV isnt really practical for day to day use, I will agree with that. But the benefits FAR outweigh the expenses (A bit mroe in gas) for me. So, I have one, and have no intention of getting rid of it ANY time soon.

I also forgot to add, its great on those "alone" nights when me n the wife are out. Yes, we still park once in a while. Yes, theres all KINDS of room in an Expedition to just get straight freak NASTAY!
