If you don't like SUVs, don't buy one! It's quite simple, really. America is not about necessity, but about wants and dreams. Of course people don't need SUVs, but then again we don't really need cars either. By your logic, none of us should own 3/4 of the stuff we have, because it really isn't necessary.

Those of you in the anti-SUV crowd need to get off your Nanny-esque butts are start worrying about your own lives and not the choices of others.

By driving an oversized gas guzzler, you are using up a precious non-renewable resource and putting me at risk when I drive my small, fuel efficient automobile.

You have a right to your choice, and I have a right to critisize it so get over it.

First you bitch because "They certainly have little practical value for most people", and got owned for that STUPID comment. Now, you're bitching because they use more of a "non-renewable resource" than you.

Well, HTF do you know they use more fuel than you do? How many gallons per year is being frugal in your opinion? How do you know they exceed that?

"...and putting me at risk when I drive my small, fuel efficient automobile"

You're the fvcktard for choosing a death mobile in the first place. As if saving the Earth's resources was your primary concern in that purchase decision.
You have a right to your choice, and I have a right to criticize it, so go hurry up and die in your little death trap.

Best comment so far. I hate when people bash on SUVs which are incredibly more "practical" than a sports car, and then the next day they go off on how awesome some new sports car is that has nearly the same MPG, usually takes even more expensive gas, and barely fits two passangers...so damn practical. It's just hilarious.

I use about 1000 gallons of gas per year. The cost for me to get a more fuel efficient vehicle, and leave my current one parked would never end up as a savings. If I were to sell my car, and get a Honda Civic. I'd still use about 600-700 gallons per year, which is only a savings of about $1000 per year. (given a $3/gallon gas bill) However, the cost of the car, if I sold my current car, would be $3000. I'd be giving up a roomy, comfortable, fun to drive vehicle for a box with wheels for something that would take three years to break even on. Financially it's not a hot deal. For a vehicle with similar performance, but a lighter, more fuel efficient engine, I would have to fork over about $10k more than my current car's value, and then it would take about 15-20 years to make up the cost difference. Changing cars for gas milage is a bad move for me. Gas would have to be about $8/gallon to make it worth the cost of a new car.

Oh, I'm a "fvcktard" because I choose not to waste my money on an oversized, gas guzzler?

Hahahahahaha.

Do you even have a licence yet? Based on your level of maturity, I would guess not.

Unlike you, I don't need an impractical, status symbol to feel like a real man.

Hey Demon-Xanth, you're missing the whole point there! You're supposed to trade down to a more fuel efficent car for the good of the Earth!

You're the idiot that doesn't realize high gas prices are bad for the economy, and cost extra for those of us that don't drive SUVs as well.

I'm going to chime in on this topic. There are some of us with families who want/need the room an SUV affords. A car no matter how large is simply much much smaller than a fullsize SUV. So, get pissed all you like. It is a necessesity for some to be able to haul 2 adults and 3+ children in comfort. Get over it. Stop whining because you don't like SUVs. Those of us who own them don't give a crap what you think anyway.

I suspect the bolded portion explains why there is the constant rumble of whining from the anti-SUV crowd. The only person whose opinion matters to me when it comes to a vehicle purchase is my wife's.

I agree with you. It was uncalled for.

But you still seem to try and find excuses to bash SUVs even though there are lots of perfectly good reasons to own them.

Like JulesMaximus said, cars just don't cut it when you have families. I had a Lexus GS300 which isn't a small car but completely inadequate when it came to transporting my family with 3 adults, 2 cars seats and 2 strollers in the trunk. A minivan wasn't enough either because there are very few with AWD (and even fewer when I got my SUV 2 years ago).

You can complain all you want about energy waste but you need to look at yourself too. Do you have a large house? If so why? You would probably be better off getting a smaller one which uses less fuel to heat and less energy to cool. Do you take long showers? Do you leave your PC on? Your cable modem on? There are lots of ways to waste energy besides driving SUVs.

On the topic of safety. While not everyone does it, there are alot of SUVs out there now that have height matched bumpers. Companies are also coming out with smaller, lighter SUVs which are basically tall station wagons. The behemoth SUVs like the H2 and Escalade are the exception I think.

I?m glad that we have freedom to make our own decision. It is more power to the people that want to have SUV, because it is their money and they can spend it any way that they want.

If Riprorin were made commander and chief of the world he would have everyone live off porage & work 24 hour per day. He will be the first to send his parent to the gas chamber, because it is a waste of resource to keep old people who aren?t contributing to society. And, everyone should live in commune because it is much cheaper on natural resources than in private home

Bicycles are much cheaper on resources and safer on your neighbors than Hondas.

Doggiedog, if you have a legitimate need for one, I don't have a major problem with them. It just seems like that doesn't represent a majority of owners.

There are people who buy SUVs for their actual utilitarian benefit.

Then, there are plenty of people who buy them that follow Madison Avenue brainwashing with ad campaigns like GM's: "It's not more than you need. It's more than you're used to."

There are people who buy them because they just like the looks and drive of them.

There are people who buy them to fit an image they want to project (be it yuppie, bling bling gangsta, soccer mom, etc. - they're about the same as those in the #2 category)

There are people who buy them as it makes them feel safer (despite the fact they have poorer handling than a sedan.)

Anyway, as much as I'd like to see most of the gargantuan boxes of metal off the road so I could see around them when backing out or not have to drop back 1/4 mile so I could see down the road, they have the ability to purchase them and waste their own money as they see fit.

Personally, I laugh my ass off when I see a $50,000 Blazer dressed up with the Cadillac emblem.

Even then, I wouldn't mind having an old pickup truck (early 70s Chevy/GMC or mid-70s Ford) for the utility aspect.

I wish it'll hit $10/gallon. People will be more inclined to carpool which mean fewer car and traffic jam, less polution and consumption of natural resources, and in the same time forcing auto-maker to develop alternative fuel sources.

"Why these gas guzzlers are so popular is beyond me. They certainly have little practical value for most people."

Ever go on a 2 or 3 week vacation? Ever pull a travel trailer? Ever travel with 5 or 6 people?
I live in a small house. Now should I complain about all the wasted resources the so-called ecologically correct "stars" waste in building 25,000 sq.ft. mansions. Nope, none of my business. You want a big house, go for it.

I expect the same about what I drive.

Hmm, when did I ever say that most sports car owners had a legitimate need for them? It's kind of stupid, in my opinion, to buy a car that can go 140 mph when the maximum speed limit is 1/2 that.

I can believe that so many people get worked up for a couple tons of metal and plastic.

The fact that some people own mansions isn't a threat to me or my way of life, so I couldn't care less.

The larger issue is we should be a. conserving energy, and b. developing alternative energy sources. Does anyone here think that our dependence on Mid East oil is a good thing?

Nope... we should be drilling for oil in Alaska. Alternative sources of energy will come around when they are needed. They are unncecessary for the time being.
