Hey, not always true, I realize that, but it is my thought process on it. That said, I feel for those who may be affected by the G80 notebook cards. That isn't so easily dismissable like a desktop card would be.

I agree, quality electronics with no moving parts working in normal operating environment should not break.

I don't see intel as the whistle blower either. Is interesting that he got all these details, which no one seems to be disputing. Very much unlike the Inquirer to have facts. Also interesting how all the major sites are leaving this alone. Seems they don't have his sources.

Ok found this from the nvidia 10k statement:
"We continue to engage in discussions with our supply chain regarding reimbursement to us for some or all of the costs we have incurred and may incur in the future relating to the weak material set. We also continue to seek to access our insurance coverage. However, there can be no assurance that we will recover any such reimbursement. We continue to not see any abnormal failure rates in any systems using NVIDIA products other than certain notebook configurations. However, we are continuing to test and otherwise investigate other products. There can be no assurance that we will not discover defects in other MCP or GPU products."

Half the thread is ad hominen attacks against him. I guess that is a much easier form of argument than investigating the issues that are being raised.
Are you part of their staff? You write like they do. i can certainly also see AMD behind the new Nvidia Smear campaign. Highroad was never "outed" like Focus Group
The above is quite funny

and it doesn't matter - unless Nvidia does not do the "right thing'
- i think they will have to

The right thing - getting consumers laptops(and maybe desktops) that will work without overheating is probably prohibitively expensive. Also there does not really seem to exist a suitable substitute product that could be used anyway.

If you look at the Jon Peddie Figures it is really bad for both amd and nvidia.

Considering that the notebook market is growing and desktops are slowly declining it is no wonder both are trying to get into other markets. ie amd is putting way more into their igp products and nvidia has been making announcemnets about the mobile space(which i think is smart phones).

Personally i own an affected laptop - running any game sends it well into the danger zone(ie above 70C). Even for desktop use the keyboard gets uncomfortably warm and battery life is poor. Would not recommend this or really other high end gpu based laptop to anybody.

Most of the Desktop cards are better off since they have better heat dissipation and cooling. The ones in Laptops seem to be failing left and right, if they don't have the latest BIOS updates that either lower the clock of the card and/or keep the fans on at all times.

I came here to research this subject since there's a 9600 deal ($70 after MIR/Taxes). I was hoping for new info, but from what I read, it should be ok for a desktop that goes on and off once a day or so. Plus EVGA's lifetime might help unless they keep sending back other peoples returns.

Buy it. If it goes bad EVGA will take more than great care of you.
