So, my lab partner in my microcontrollers class is really gung-ho and all about it, and I am pretty much the opposite. Does it make me a bad person that I never do any of the work and never do the prelabs and just copy down everything he does? Also, I think he is trying to screw me now by not asending me all the information from the labs so I can't do the lab reports, if you were in my situation would you keep demanding the info you probably don't deserve or jsut take the bad grade since thats what you've earned anyways?

EDIT: yeah just emailed him asking for the work, I feel like such a bastard .

I dunno, I always do the work in a group because I can't really trust some random person to do a good job. I don't really have a problem with someone leeching off of me, but there have been a few times with group assignments that we had to write a paper/speech and one guy literally didn't do anything, he didn't show up to the meetings, didn't write a single line, so when he showed up in class and wanted to put his name on the paper I told him that I wasn't going to let him do that. He threw a bit of a tantrum, but honestly what did he expect would happen?

I would have to say your a moron and needs to start learning to do your own work. In the real world, you might get away with copying off of someone else for a short term in the long run, you'll definitely get canned. I'd say grow up a little bit and start taking some responsibility for yourself. If I were him I wouldn't give you squat. I'd make sure you were so unprepared with the wrong material that you drown yourself.

Don't you do the labs together or does he do everything and you sit by watching? Or do you not even go to the labs?

I'd say you're screwed and should put forth a little more effort.

I would think you will fail a lab test when it comes.

You should also tell your lab partner what you said here and try to make it up to them somehow.

I didnt really have a problem with people leeching off me, but only because I was the type of person that had to do everything myself and didnt trust other people to get the work done right.

Although if I detected that someone was trying to take advantage of me, I would feed them false information and fvck them over, or "forget" to send them that report they needed by the next day.

No kidding. It also sucks when you're working with someone who is, shall we say, not quite so skilled. But a little ways into the project, the person seems to realize this, and tries to overcompensate by trying to "help" constantly, giving suggestions or trying to take up the slack their lack of skill has created.
At some point, you just feel like telling them, "Be quiet, and let me think."

The other option: start giving a damn about it.
In my physics I and II labs, I knew what I was doing; the concepts are generally easy for me to understand, anything from physical motion such as motion vectors or constant acceleration to electromagnetic effects, it just seems intuitive. My lab partners didn't quite get it. That, and the fact that the teacher isn't exactly the greatest, doesn't help their understanding. The teacher tries, but he gets flustered in front of crowds and mixes up words a lot; telling students 3x in a row that volts are units of resistance will tend to confuse people.
But they do seem to want to know the material, so while doing the lab, I'll ask every so often to make sure that my lab partner knows what's going on, why the experiment is behaving like it is.

it really depends. some courses the labs have absolutely no relation to any of the tests or the exams and they are assigned a percentage of the course mark which you can get by completing the labs whichever way you can ..which in your case is copying. other courses however you would be better off knowing your stuff i.e. doing the labs yourself so that you don't get screwed on the exam

you sound exactly like my lab partner was. It was actually really annoying when he would copy all my prelabs and for that reason I would purposely not send him all of the information for the lab reports. If you're not into it, that's fine. But you are working with a partner for a reason so you should probably help him out.

Yeah, exactly.
You'll get the work grades, but you'll fail all the tests.
