I got the x25-E Intel drive years ago I don't want to remember how much I paid for it. I still have that drive somewhere in my computer closet. When the price drops to around $90 per 120Gb consumer drive, I got 8 of those (+ 2 256Gb drives) - that was about a year ago. To this day, I still have a few still unopened.

I got hosed in a different way. Got two 80GB Intel X25-Ms and they proceeded to slowly crap out over a month or two, progressively getting slower (hitching all over the desktop) until they finally died and wouldn't boot.

That soured me on SSDs for awhile (as Intel was supposed to be the shiznit), until I got a pair of 120GB OCZ Vertex 2s. Those still work to this day - go figure eh? OCZ vs. Intel and OCZ losing Not a fluke either - I have a crap-ton of OCZ/Sandforce SSDs in service (Vertex 2, Agility 3, Agility 4, etc.) with no firmware problems.

Funny how that works, my first SSD's were 2 80 gb X25's that are still going strong, but I had one of my Vertex 2's fail. Think I paid around $240 each for the X25's.

I never had any regrets on any of the SSD's I bought, maybe 15 total now. For me they were worth the price paid.

 Heh, you're telling me! If anything, I thought the Intels were bulletproof. Haven't owned one since then - now it's just a mix of Samsung 840s, Crucial M500s and assorted SandForce drives.

Back in 2010, got a 40 GB Intel for $99.00 and it's running Win7 to this day. Have to be very thrifty with system updates. Then spent $150 on a gigantic 64 GB Kingston for programs since the little Intel was previously engaged.

Today, I spent $80 on a 128G M500 boot drive and $250 on a 480G M500. As you can see SSDs have gotten so much more expensive. But, fortunately, their capacity has out-paced inflation. ;-)

(All prices in CDN - in 2010, the CDN was worth more than US. Today it's at .91 cents US)

My first SSD cost $800 for 64 gig I think and was an SC. I was an early adopter.

According to Newegg I paid $369 for my 120GB Vertex in 2009. RMA'd the drive 3 times and I think they finally sent me a Vertex 3 which I use as my portable HDD.

still more interesting. 64GB @ $800 is not reasonable, IMO.

I just said it's when they initially came out. All SSD's were super expensive back then. A CD player for $400 isn't reasonable today either but back in the day they cost a lot.

I'm not arguing. I understand how it works.

OCZ (second gen pre sanforce) $120 for a 60GG had no problems, sold it for $90 after about 6 months.
This was replaced with a 120GB X25-M which I've had since shortly after they came out. Paid $195 for it. I'm currently using it right now in my Dell Vostro 1700 which also has a 640GB HD in it. Thing runs WIN 7 64 just fine. Waiting for WIN 8 (aka the new Vista) fiasco and some other compelling reason for me to upgrade.

Hangs head in shame

My second one was the Crucial M500 240 GB for $110.
