How big is your gaming display?

I have 3 - 20” monitors and I’m starting to not like them as the bezel is always in the way, not every game supports them right out of the gate and they literally take the whole desk.

So was thinking of getting a 30” or bigger one, maybe curved. The 2xxx resolution isn’t too much, but 3xxx is upwards of $1k.

What do you guys game on?

My current setup is a stacked set of monitors. A 40" 4k Phillips on the top and a 35" Monoprice ultrawide on the bottom. For games built with higher resolutions in mind and generally slower-paced (RPGs), I use the 4k monitor. For fast paced games or those where 4k puts a hurt on my GPU, I use the ultrawide (120Hz).

One day I'd like to have the best of both worlds, a 4k monitor in the 38-40" range with 120-144Hz refresh rate and some OLED-like technology with super deep blacks and excellent brightness for HDR gaming. We'd be there if they could only figure out a reliable source for Chitauri tech...

I wanted at least 30 inches and 144 hz with gsync so I got the LG 32GK850G. It's 31.5 inch and 165 hz, and looks subjectively really good compared to my 10 year old dell wfp3007-hc

I think 27” 2560x1440 is optimum. Good balance of size, image quality, desktop real-estate and performance. Also no scaling is needed.

I’ve had 30” but it felt too “big”. 27” fits much better into your vision at desktop viewing distance.

I have a 30" Dell 3014 2560x1600 display and I disagree about 30" being too big. I do however agree with 1440p/1600p being the optimal resolution.

32" 1440 HP Omen.

I think the monitor it replaced was 24", so it was a really big adjustment at first (I originally was going to return it), but after getting used to it for a few days, I ended up really liking it.

After using a large display for five+ years i'm not sure I would be willing to go with anything smaller then 27" or lower then 1440p by choice.

Do NOT get a curved monitor!!! I can't state this enough. It is complete utter market fad crap. There are really only 2-3 reasons for a curved display, one being that it is the screen for a projector system that is curved so that the light being projected across the entire screen can be at the same focal length (the edges of a flat screen are farther in distance than the center of the screen would be assuming the projector is centered on the screen). Most all other "curved" displays popped up after the high end curved screens came out trying to be the "hey, look at me, we are curved because those other high end systems you saw which used projectors were curved, so we are too"....

I mean, ok, if you have a 30 inch TN panel which you sit close too, yes, you have another reason for having a curved display (because the off angle viewing of that type of panel is horrible and you would notice a color shift on the sides of the screen if you are sitting too close). But there is no reason in the world that you should purchase a TN panel anymore, and an IPS panel or similar will give you 178 degrees of viewing angle without picture color shift. After that, you are really pushing it for a valid reason.

42" 1080p HDTV.

Not quite sure whether I want to go smaller/more monitors and sit at a proper desk again... or go even larger to around 60" 4k.

I'm moving house soon so I guess that will help with my decision too.

For 42" and larger displays I would consider going 4K instead of 1080p for a computer monitor.

Thanks. I bought my 42" 1080p TV in 2014.

I wasn't considering purchasing another single 1080p screen.

In late 2018 for anything larger then 23"/24" I wouldn't either. However I'm not sure going bigger then 43" at 4K for desktop use would be suitable anyway.

Benq BL3200PT 32" 1440p.

I came from 3 x 24" 1200p and I didn't want to downsize too much so I settled on a 32". It took a while to get used to the size but now I think a 27 might feel too small.

24" 1080p (Samsung CFG70) - FPS is more important to me than higher res. I'm slow to adopt new display tech it seems. For the longest time I was a CRT hold out when everyone else had been on LCDs for years.

^ A lot of this stuff (ergonomics) ends up entirely subjective & personal. For some the bell shaped "comfort level curve" of sitting close to a very large screen starts to drop at 27", others 32", others 34", etc. It also differs given the shape of the screen (many people at their 16:9 limit can get away with going up a notch to 2.35:1 UHD screens in terms of adding extra width but will find it's the extra height of going up a 16:9 -> 16:9 notch that kills it in terms of getting an urge to lean back / move your head around more or strain your neck up at a higher angle to look at the top of the screen). Correct desk height and HAS (Height Adjustable Stands) have an impact too.

Likewise for those who have no problem with 27" @ 1080p vs "it's too low res!", it's often because they sit further back (eg, on a bed 4-5 ft away instead of a desk for gaming in the bedroom), or are perhaps spectacle wearers who find that larger text matters more for readability than resolution after you factor in the effect of how spectacles work (ie a 27" screen viewed through concave (counter myopia) lenses can end up "appearing" only 24-26", so for those with less than perfect 20:20 vision, pushing it up a notch (eg, 27" vs 24" @ 1080p) is perfectly normal to overcome that.

2x 1080p monitors - an ancient 23" Acer and a newer 24" HP I snagged when my work was having an equipment giveaway.

Usually watching Netflix on one monitor while gaming on the other in "Full Spectrum Entertainment" mode.

I've often considered picking up a 27" 1440p 144hz or better monitor, and I'd probably love it since I tend to be a couple years behind the gaming curve in terms of games I play.

Used to have a Dell 27 inch gsync 1440p panel. Recently upgraded to the Alienware 34 inch ultrawide 120hz gsync monitor and it's so much more productive. Wanted more real estate and the increase in resolution is nice too. Should have done this sooner.

27" 1440p korean ips monitor for desktop, with a LG 29" 2560x1080 as backup. I don't mind the lower res ultrawide for gaming, but everything else is more productive on 1440p. Also, a 55" 4k lcd tv for gaming htpc.
