65", about 10' away.

Looks great. Could be a little bigger before I started seeing pixels, but not the 80" the charts claim....I'd see them if it were that much bigger. Wouldn't complain if it were bigger, but since nothing looks better than a Plasma (that's affordable), this is what I bought.

Might would have gone for one of those 75" Sammy LCD's, but giving up PQ for an extra 10" and spending an extra $2-3K to do it just didn't make sense.

Yep - I've always, and still want, a projector. But I have a feeling it would still be a guest-spot situation - big movies and stuff for the epic size factor, but the 50" plasma I have, or an OLED years from now when that is affordable, will probably maintain most display duties.

A large projection screen can be awesome, and, if you shopped the right model for throw distance and light output, blacks could be quite swell (not perfect though) for the technology.

Curious if they'll ever create projectors that can rival the black levels of CRT projectors, without some of the drawbacks of the tri-color (triple lens) image separate and combination method and other limitations.

Maybe I might be impressed with the most recent projectors, but still - inky black levels are so awesome, tough to accept dark gray just for more screen real estate, but a 120"+ display certainly is appealing.

If it dies, I'm going 32" 1080p to save money and power. I keep the effer on all day as background noise and a distraction. Will make It easier to move too.

42" and about 10' to 12' away. My wife says the ratio is perfect. If I ever actually got to use the TV between her and the kids, I'd probably want a bigger one.

I have a 27" that I sit maybe 4-5ft away from. Don't have the space for anything bigger at the moment.

Yep, even the best projectors are really only good for a completely dark room, and even then they can't touch a good Plasma. Best thing they have going for them is the huge screen, which IS pretty cool....but strictly speaking of picture quality, it's not close.

Living room: 42" plasma connected by HDMI at approx. 12 feet or so.

Bedroom: 23" LED LCD PC monitor connected by HDMI at approx. 5 feet or so.

65", about 10' away. I'd really like to get the 84" 4K, but the prices need to come down a LOT, and I'll have to wait until we get the new house.

that was my feeling when I was shopping for a tv.

if I had a dark basement home theater room, projector all the way. but as my primary living room tv, it just didn't feel like a great option. (I would love to have a projector in my bedroom pointed at the ceiling, but my bedroom right now isn't a great fit for it (not enough open ceiling space with a ceiling fan in the center of the room)

That's my long-term approach. I appreciate the 4K sets, but I finally caved now (few months back) and got the P50ST60, after having a 32" 720p LCD since 2006. I know it will be some time before I care to upgrade, or more importantly, can afford the displays I want. 4K 80"+ OLED, at prices around, say, good plasma at 50-55" size prices. $2000 at most for that set, and I know I've got probably four or five years before I see that - which is great, because I'm going to enjoy the hell out of this 50" plasma.

Do I wish it were larger? Yep - I wish I could have afforded that. Works for me - hopefully the next place has a better living room setup so I can make it work for a closer viewing spot - would help separate the audio from rear walls too, minimize audio wave deflections and negative propagation (unless you have a sound bar - then you want to use all four walls).

The other thing: unless you don't care about added costs, it's a bad idea to use a projector for all viewing - unless all you watch is movies and play games. Hard to not want to game on one I reckon, I wouldn't put that on the smaller secondary display!

But I know I'd have a backup - maybe have a drop-down projector right in front of a wall-mounted TV, with a dedicated AV rack and probably utilize RF or the smart-hub route so I can hide it.
Ideally, a purpose-built room with sound-deadening - no ornate, extravagant style, but perhaps and an elevated seating platform with two "stadium" rows and perhaps something like d-box (that's the extravagant decorations budget - much more purposeful put to use here)

28" CRT and I sit about 8.5 feet away. Got it virtually for free when I was a student, and since the thing is indestructible and I don't watch a lot of TV, it has remained with me.

Looking to upgrade soon. Currently 42" seems to be the sweet-spot for price/size, but I'll probably go for 46-50".

In some crappy training I had a few years ago for a big UK high street chain, the sometimes shaky rule of thumb was to be situated 3x the size of a TV away from the TV location.

So 42" would be 10.5'

I'm roughly at 14' from my 42" and feel a 50" would be more suitable when the bank balance allows it.

42", and when it happens to be on while I'm in the kitchen, I'm fine with ~15' or however far it is.
