55" and 14' away. It is temporary until 80" LCDs become affordable. Generally a distance 1.5-2x the diagonal measurement of the screen is appropriate for 1080p content.

Mine is a Panny 42" and I sit about 7-8 feet away. So far, so good.

I've got a 70", 65", 60", 55", 42", and some others. I sit about 8 feet away from all of them.

However, 99% of my TV viewing is on a 24" in the kitchen or on iPads.

What a HUGE waste of money then. Also, your house must be rather large.

I sit about 14 feet away, it's 110".

You need bigger Mizzou, much bigger!

Problem with projectors is that you need to have a semi-dark room to be able to view it decently. If you have normal sunlight coming in, or just your room lights on, the picture is going to look faded.

IIRC, a 16:9 (1.78) aspect display with 1080 (or 1100) line pairs the threshold of the human eye being able to resolve said resolution is 1.5x the screen's width. Let's put this into an example:

I have a pair of 50" 1080P plasma displays. The 50" is the diagonal so the width portion is 50 x 0.8716 or about 43.6". Now, 1.5 times this and put into feet is about 5.45 feet viewing distance. These results are proportional so any screen large or small is a simple fraction of this distance.

Also keep in mind that if your sight is better/worse than 20/20 then that is a factor, too. So, how many of you are sitting at your display's threshold? Sitting beyond it means you may have paid for something you cannot see, and sitting closer than said threshold means you are on meth (kudos).

My current TV, which I've had for about 5 years, is a 46" Samsung LCD HDTV and I sit about 9-10 feet away.

In a few years when 4K sets have come down in price I may upgrade to about 55 inches.

Just prior to moving, we had a 65" setup about 10 feet away maybe. At first I thought it was too large but then I got used to it.

And just before that we had about 140" at about 12 feet away. I had zero problems with that one for some reason

Right now we sit like 4' from our 65" and don't use it often. For some reason that doesn't both me either. I think I've just become used to it. We usually use our 42" Sony that's about 5' or 6' away and it seems about right.

I had a 60 and a 50 before but they both died.

That's what keeps me from going HD. The TV's fail at a ridiculous rate compared to CRT sets. I see people reporting 3-5 yrs. life all the time in Amazon reviews.

Our old 32" SD set has lasted a very long time, and I expect it to continue that way. We sit about 10' away.

By the time my TV dies in 3-5 years I'm cool with plopping down money on a new one that will be way way better and have new features.

Having netflix on your tv is pretty much as must have now.

92 billion light years across and it's right in my face. I need a new color tube though; there's a bit of a red cast over the corners.

Bleh crappy chart is crappy.

Does not take into account that most people see better than 20/20 vision. Does not take into account that most video formats have some form of compression. Compression makes artifacts that are bigger than a pixel. An artifact shown in a 4K TV is literally 1/4th the size of one shown on a 1080p screen.

I have a 55" in my living room and it's way too small for me I would love to have a 300 inch 4K screen Would be glorious!

But right now I have two 55" TVs. One in the living room and the other in the bedroom. They work and are certainly nicer than any older SD tv's. But the higher the resolution and the bigger the size the better
