380 here as well, i guess thats not too bad since i havent done anything after high-school. there were probably 20 or better that i *knew* but not well enough i could define them offhand, but rather if i saw something being described as such or talked about id understand it.

i got 568

i highly doubt people were being honest if they got any more than 575. there were many of these words that were obscure medical diseases or medical terminology that you'd really only know about if you'd studied to be a healthcare practitioner.

If you really know your stuff, translate this into laymen's terms.

"Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is it vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished, as the once vital voice of the verisimilitude now venerates what they once vilified. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose vis-à-vis an introduction, and so it is my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V. "

I couldn't finish, my eyes were burning.

If you followed the instructions you should have a rather high score. Throughout life you encounter a huge number of thoes words in all types of media and human interaction.

There were many where I felt that I knew the definition but was not absolutely certain, so I didn't check them. There were also quite a few that I felt I should know, having seen and heard them often, but which I couldn't define since they were out of context.

I wouldn't consider myself to be well-read, but I do enjoy reading, and I read a lot more than most people I know. If I come across a word I don't know, and I have a dictionary handy, I'll look it up. But most times, I just let it go.

I sensed some serious BS from many members. 500+? My wife and I are both fairly-well educated but very avid readers. We were both honest in ONLY checking those words we truly could define. 408 for me, 442 for my wife (arglebarglegrumble.)

Those 25 members who voted 600+ are (most likely) complete fabricators.

I certainly did. Initially I found it strange that I scored significantly higher in section 6 over section 5, however, IIRC there more scientific terms and French words in section 6 which would have boosted my score. BTW my score was 452, thanks to my science profs and Marcel Proust for helping to make this score possible

basically, it's a bunch of crap about how a sideshowish dude went through tons of crap in his life and is the product of his screwed up environment.

the only reason i got over 500 is because i'm studying to become a doctor and many of those words are health related.

Unfortunately my paranoia concerning java applets aborted the questionnaire before I could find out if supercalifragilisticexpialidocious was one of the words....Score = 0 or <100 for those half full types.
