I just love how the Enermax power supplies are always excluded from that list.

They are telling me that the Galaxy is not good enough to run 2 of those cards... I bet it has enough juice to run 3 of them and still have plenty left.

JohnnyGuru talked about this on his forum IIRC. Basically, the 750W doesn't make the 'official' cut because it doesn't come stock with four 6-pin molex connectors.

My NeoHE 550 is theoretically supposed to do 42A over the three 12V rails. There is no way I'm getting a DX10-Gen1 GPU. Hopefully R700 will cut way back on the power.

Just have a case with Dual GPU

2x 500W PSU will do fine

One for Mobo , CPU , HDD , Optical drive , Fan
2nd for Dual GUP

Yeah, from the way I understand it the psu needs the four PCIe connectors for G80 SLI config. If the psu in question has the wattage, amps, and 4 connectors, then you are good to go wether its on some list or not. One thing is clear. You wont need a 1kw unit for 8800GTX SLI. Top end looks to be 850w as far as wattage and amps go for a regular pc setup and you can get by with less depending on your system setup. Just look carefully at the psu in question when buying and make sure it meets all the requirements.

I would think even 850W is a lot more than needed. The Techreport review shows a single 8800GTX actually using 10W less than a single X1900XTX on load. I have the latter card and it's clocked up a bit (700/800mhz), but the system's total power draw is only about 230W on full load. It seems that even a good 600W unit should be enough for SLI if TR's numbers are correct.

Shouldn't the Seasonic 700W M12 make the cut for dual 8800GTXs? If 450 is recommend for 1 8800GTX system, and the 8800GTX uses a max of 200W, shouldn't that be enough? If I'm not mistaken, it does have 4 PCI-E connectors (I'm assuming they're 6 pin connectors).

This is absolutely ridiculous. I don't understand why they are recommending 1KW. It has already been proven that on a completely top end system only uses ~500Watt for SLI'd 8800GTX's. If you could find a PSU in the 500-600 Watt range, with 4 PCI-E connectors, I am 100% positive it will have no problems running SLIed 8800GTX's.

Why not just keep the current PSU (whatever it is) and get one of these? Most people looking at the 88000gtx SLI solution generally already have good PSU's. They only need a little more juice...

Then, just use the PSU for one 8800GTX and the dedicated GPU PSU for the other...too ghetto?

I dont think its so much as reccomending 1 kw psu to run 8800GTX SLI. I think they're just saying those 1kw units are certified. Like someone said earlier the manufacturers pay to have their choice units tested. I think its more that the psu manufacturers are pushing the higher units more than nVidia themself. I could be wrong about that but thats just how I'm reading into it. And yeah, ATI and nVidia overrate their requirements but better to for them to do that than underrate them. Imagine if they did. Alot of folks would be pissed. Better to have too much than not enough. Within reason of course.

I'm not hugely surprised that most of the list are in the KW range. Two 8800s can hardly be being friendly with power, can it. What, requiring two 6-pin additional power sources each. I guess someone's going to have to start testing the lower PSUs unofficially if we want to know how well less expensive, but still powerful, PSUs can handle insane graphicaly powered rigs ..

Though, if you have the moolah for dual 8800s surely you'd no skimp on the PSU?
