Being a freak athlete means very little. JaMarcus Russel was a freak athlete and how did that end up?
I remember you calling Russell and *uhg* Leaf "elite", in the last conversation we had about those two a coupl'a weeks back.

Yeah, AP was an exception too. The NFL will always have a couple of marquee guys at the position, but remember the 80s and the sheer number of elite backs?
Because, among all athletes to have ever been, they are elite. They made it to the most elite level of football (even if just barely made it). They are among a group that so few will ever even be close to reaching.I remember you calling Russell and *uhg* Leaf "elite", in the last conversation we had about those two a coupl'a weeks back.

I guess Leaf is "elite" since he did something else few have done -- getting tossed in the slammer.
More people got jail than make it in the NFL. He did both! Elite indeed.
Wow, how did that happen? You replied faster than the post you were quoting!

aMarcus Russel was an athletic freak of nature who had crappy work ethics. Such a waste. Imagine if someone like Drew Brees had the body of JaMarcus Russel. He'd destroy the NFL.
Don't know if this was already posted but figured it was apt.
I not one to usually defend PM but I thought his press conference after the game was incorrect when he described his performance as "stinks", his only one really bad play was the pick by Rob N, the 2nd he hit Welker right on the numbers only to have it bounce off into the hands of the Pat's DB's, got to make that catch there Wes. PM was not responsible for the punt return for a TD nor did he allow critical 3rd down conversions and shame on the coaches and O-line for letting a LB run free to the QB with just 3 rushing on a critical 4th down play. IMHO he's the most accurate "drop it in" QB playing right now but I think Brady's low, tight spiral, fastball passing style has an advantage in severe wind elements.
He definitely didn't stink, but there were a few long bombs that he barely overthrew that might have ended in TDs. I blamed it on the wind (Brady had one or two as well) but I think Manning blames himself. I still don't think it would have ended in a W but it could have been closer. Just a typical Manning interview I guess.
I noticed they were allowing a lot of hand-checking by DB's during the game which resulted in the Pat's getting some key 4th down stops. Really the game balls go to Edelman for the punt return and catching a low, hard-thrown pass for a TD. Honorable mention goes to the Pat's O-line which managed to keep "pot-roast" from blowing up the middle of the pocket like he did several times in the AFC champ. game last year and giving Brady time to find plays down-field. IMHO if they meet in the playoff's it will be a thriller, Pat's next opponent is Indy and Luck is the most consistent QB in the league right now and the game is in Indy so expect a battle.
anyone else annoyed with the officiating this year? I mean wtf. How hard is it to call games consistently. Now you can hand check again? Seriously NFL has damaged its brand consistently this year. Idiots in that office..
