I know this is a basic question. Can divx only be viewed on the computer or in dvd also? What about vcd, other than a vcd player can it be played on dvd and computer? How does the quality compare? Thanks.
divx movies can only be watched on computers for now, vcds can be played in vcd players, computers and I think dvd players, dvd quality blows away vcd and divx, divx does have really good quality for the file size though
VCD are encoded as MPEG 1 files. They can be played on computers in the CD-ROM drive and most DVD drives. SVCD are encoded at MPEG 2 files. They too can be played on computers, but you need to use DVD software to watch a SVCD. Because MPEG 2 is the same compression routine used on DVD discs. Again, most DVD players will also play a SVCD.
DivX is a compression scheme unique to personal computers (at this time). Files encoded in DivX format must be played back on the PC using the codec (coder decoder) found here
