How Can I Password Protect a Share in Windows 2000?

Hi all, running win2k pro and I want to password protect a share - how can I do this?

When you enable sharing on a folder you can also set the permissions of that folder. If you just want people to be able to read files and not write them make sure that only "read" is set to "allow". Change and Full should be blank, don't set them to "deny".

even better to do is to set the permission on folder level.
If you have the disks formatted in NTFS set up the permission there.
That's even more secure than share permissions

I have the drive set up in NTFS, and I know how to create users and then modify what users have what level of access. However, I have some Windows 98 clients that have a user name so they can even get onto my computer. The thing is that many peope use the Window98 machine, so sometime I might not want that machine to access my files. Now I know that there are more secure and better ways, but I want to use password level secruity for a folder. Is this even possible?

Not possible without a 3rd party program. Win2k was built around a user system of authentication, not a machine based/password based system like 98 has.
