How can I speed up this crutch best? (Celeron J1800)

No, I wouldn't suggest someone go out and buy a J1800 (an N2840 maybe, but not a J1800, not when J1900 exists), but really, the J1900 would perform better than a similarly priced used off-lease business machine, and it'd be new and have the warranty that goes along with being new.

I disagree, it took me 5 minutes to find a good used machine that will kick the crap out of anything with an J1900 in it.

OK, I'll retract my comment, I guess I was a bit outdated on what was off lease for around $200. Ivy Bridge in a laptop is nothing to sneeze at. (Granted, ThinkPad batteries being as bad as they are mean that you'll probably be forced to use it as a desktop, but still.)

Older laptops definitely don't have the battery life of some of the newer offerings, but to say that a T430 would have to be used as a desktop is a bit of an exaggeration. With the the big battery, you can do light computing for 6-8 hours on battery.

When the battery's new, absolutely. However, in my experience, battery degradation is a big problem with ThinkPads, and always has been.

But, then, seeing as we're talking about J1x00, which is the desktop CPU, even if the battery's totally dead, it'd be fine.

I have a desktop with Celeron j1800 and works for the purpose, I buy for my mom to use Netflix and Facebook, for that is good enough, consumes little energy and the temps for a fanless system is excelent (in my country 35º/40ºC all year).

Don't is a bad hardware, it does what he build for do, if you want fly don't buy a motorcicle...

If this was a J1900, it would probably be worth the $100 they're charging. But N3050? Ugh.
