Lethal

I have one literally across the street from me. It's great to be able to walk over there when I'm doing a project to buy the necessary supplies.

Ancient maybe to people familiar or with access to broadband -- though for the folks not quite with the times, I might guess that catalogs are still pretty popular.

That is surprisingly.

Compare that to Wal-mart....They had 216 billions in revenue and 8.5 billions in net income.

I'll bet they are still around when you are dead in the cold ground.

My parent's garage is full of Craftsman tools. My Dad has a Craftsman air compressor that is older than which he got when he married my mom. (Almost 23 years). It is still working like the day he bought it. I never seen a Craftsman tool break either. That's quality product now.

Sears tries to be too much...eletronics, hardware, clothing, lawn and garden, etc. Most people will go to best buy, home depot, and mall stores for most of that stuff. Walmart or Target if they really want an "all in one" place.

Most of the people who have never been in a Sears don't know how to use a screwdriver. Sears is doing just fine.

Let this "Sears will go out of business" die.
A company making a profit in excess of 1 billion is hardly in trouble.

Great tools. We got two drills and tons of tools and they haven't missed a lick in 10 years.

Novus was the original owner. Sears owns Discover...you can even still pay your Discover bills at Sears

I don't think so.
Discover card was sold a while over....was it Novous that bought it ??
Not quite. Sears owned the Novus Financial Network (including Discover, Novus Financial, TransAmerica, and Morgan Stanley) a while back, and then spun off the respective parts (back in 97 IIRC). Discover is owned by Morgan Stanley now, but Sears still owns significant stakes in those companies.

edit: Sears has always been heavily diversified, especially in financial products/services. This goes way back in their history as one of the innovators of the modern installment loan back in the late 1800's. Actual credit for inventing modern consumer finance as we know it today goes to the Singer Sewing Machine Co. -- they invented the modern American fixed payment installment loan, but Sears was one of the early adopters, helping their customers buy their larger ticket items.

Sears does a LOT of business.

Like others have said, Kenmore and Craftsman are two of the reasons. The other big one is the Sears card. I worked at Sears and people would buy pretty much everything there, and the main reason was because they had a Sears card.

We just bought a treadmill at Sears. We also got all of our appliances and our lawnmower there.

So many arguments were made, before your post, as to why people still go there and you still can understand?
You're hopeless.

I'll probably be getting a ~$1700 TV there within the next 6 months. My lawnmower came from Sears, and possibly a snowblower very soon. I like Sears for stuff like that. I don't buy clothes or anything like that there tho.

Sears is doing pretty good in my area, especially when it comes to home appliances. Home Depot just open a couple of years here though...so it could be tough.

That is one behemoth that can change with the times... quickly. You do know that they've almost completely phased out all commission sales positions. You know full time positions are few and far between. You don't? No wonder we're hearing these asinine predictions of doom! I don't hesitate to buy from Sears. They'll price match everything, and I can return stuff VERY easily. They have MUCH bigger selections than Target, Walmart, Kmart and whoever else you care to go to. That's the first place I'll check for electronics. If they don't happen to carry what I want, who cares? If they do, I get it price matched, so where's the problem?

I don't buy stuff there since I usually never go there, but the one time I went in I saw much better quality electronics than found at Best Buy. Best Buy usually carries bottom of the line stuff, while Sears actually carries better models and better lines. I thought it was interesting.

We go there like someone else said, just for the Tools and Lawn Equipment department. Have never bought anything else from the store that I can think of. But the customer service sometimes leaves quite a bit to be desired.
