Can you afford to buy a house CASH? In many countries such liberal credit policies are not in place so middle and low income people are not able to purchase a house, a car, or any expensive item.

As for your parents paying cash to buy a car and do roofing, that is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. With record low interest rates you are better off taking a loan to pay for the items. With the cash you have, you can invest it or keep it liquid so that you can use it for emergencies. Have you never heard the saying "Cash is King"?

My family is going to be in debt because of my college tuition fees. I'm going to be in debt because of medical school. How do you propose i remedy this. Just forget about school and start working right out of high school ?

So when you turn 18, move out of your house, enroll in school full time 15+ hours, get a job and pay for everything yourself including rent, tuition, books, food, electricity and dont take out any type of loans or credit cards or any kind of assistance from your parents. After you do that come back here and talk.

Let's look at it this way:

$100K house is $400K now. It took 5 years to pay it off = $80K. Add back say $20K in living expenses. If your family makes $100K a year, you are in the upper class buddy.

Well one is a janitor and the other helps. I didn't actually intend to hit post when I said both of my parents are janitors. I was going to say "My parents are janitors and one of them also works in an accounting office". But I decided against that in the end since only 1 of them is being paid janitor the other one does accounts receivable for a local company.
