How can the Galaxy Note 3 be 8 inches?

I am considering buying a Galaxy Note 3. It claims to have an 8 inch screen size. This confuses me because my sister bought her daughter a 7 inch tablet that looks like its even bigger than the Galaxy Note 3 in physical size. I cannot hold the 7" tablet between my thumb and other fingers in one hand. Yet the official Samsung video shows everyone in the video accomplishing this feat. So I am just confused by the specifications that claim this device has an 8" screen size. What part of this equation am I missing?

I'm pretty damn sure the note 3 is not 8"... It's like 5.7 or 5.8.

I think you are getting the Note tablet and the Note phone mixed up. The Note tablet comes in an 8" version.

1280 x 800 -- Samsung, this is 2013, almost 2014, that rez is so 2010...Brian

I get your point, but you are exaggerating a little the Ipad 1 came out in 4/2010 with a lower resolution, and the first "true" android competitor came out very late 2/2011 with an inferior screen but a higher resolution. It was not 4/2011 with the original transformer did we see a screen with the resolution you are complaining about 1280x800 and colors that are comparable (but a little lower) than the Ipad 1. It wasn't till May 2012 did we see a superior screen with the Ipad 3.

The Upcoming Note 10.1 2014 edition, which comes out in 2 weeks on Oct 10, 2013, is 2560x1600 with a wacom digitizer

You must be looking at the 8 inch version of the TAB 3.
There is also a 7 inch and 10 inch version.

Note 3 is a 5.5 inch device (I think).

The Note and Tab lines confused the heck out of me initially. And they made it worse by adding even more numbers including decimals. (Tab 3 7.1?) Now I do understand where things stand, but I am sure there still are many confused people.

I saw that one today at BB and Wow! its freaking gorgeous. I'm thinking about trading in my barely use Toshiba 10" 'Thrive' tablet just to get the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 (8")

I know the screen is only (1280×800) but it is beautiful, I also compared it to the Galaxy Note 8.0 version but just using both for a few minutes and for my purposes the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8" is all I need.

However, if I was in school I would get the Galaxy Note 8.0 version or the 'about' to be released Samsung Galaxy Note® 10.1- 2014 Edition.

Looking forward to the Note 3 as well. Great choice. I have the Note 8 and I find it to be a much more expensive but far more effective tablet than the Tab 3. The Note 8 really is useful for school or work; I used it for both so was a happy camper. The resolution on the Note 8 doesn't bother me as much as the Nexus 7 (2012). The old Nexus 7 was great but found the screen a bit too cramped.

A big complaint about the Note 8 is the lower rez. Not really a mobile gamer or movie watcher with it so the lower rez wasn't a factor. But 1080p should really be the minimum if you are. However, using the stylus to dictate notes was so easy. That's why my next phone should have one.
