I use an extension for Firefox called Social Fixer. It allows you to customize a lot of your Facebook layout and feed, plus it also has a friend tracker. It will tell you when you're defriended by somebody, and by whom.

i've only defriended 1 person and am glad it's possible... he would always post shit like "people who _____ are retards" acting superior all the time. He's fricken 30+ years old. Another one is on the brink though... he does the same thing except with the word douchebags. But I see him in person all the time, not like the former who was a hs friend I never see anymore.

I cleaned up my Facebook Friends list over the weekend. Deleted over 40 people who I thought weren't really Friends, but more or less acquaintances whom I don't communicate with.

I have a lot of female friends who do nothing but constantly upload pictures of themselves. Literally dozens and dozens of albums of mostly themselves, in stupid poses. They are the next ones to get the boot.

People may not contact you in months, but if you unfriend them because they are constantly putting up BS or stupid pictures of what they eat, you would think that you ran over their children or something, they get so offended. If it weren't for some family I have overseas I would quickly kill my FB account. I noticed that sometimes people vanish, and then show up again, it's the weirdest thing ever. I went from 3924 friends down to 3923, and I found out who it was as I happened to want to send that person a message. Maybe he just deactivated temporary for some reason. I don't really pay much attention to Facebook, and no I don't actually have that many friends on there.

It works. I know a few people who deactivate/reactivate their profile about 3-4 times a week. The script only works for activity after you have installed it though -it can't 'see' any unfriends/deactivations prior to the install.
