How can you merge 2 COMPS?

Ok well I have two PCs: a Celeron 1.3 Ghz and a P3 800Mhz and I want to know if theres any way I can use them together. I would be both avdantageous and fun to have, I'm hoping to run Linux on it.

I'm not sure exactly what a "cluster" or "node" (as they call them) really implies. Is it purely for number crunching, or can you really use two different comps together to my regular PC activities?

I'm just trying to make the best of two decent comps that are just occupying space in my closet...

Software has to be specially engineered and ran over some sort of interconnect system. Such has LAN. not 10/100. Much to much of a bottle neck. Gigabit is most often used but Fiber is needed for the best results. There are a couple of programs out there made to be set up on clusters. But in simple terms, there is no program that you can install, and then run any program on it and make them work in tandem.

So its basically impossible unless you really know what your doing? O well I guess I could sell them on Ebay...

you could install folding@home on both of them and have them crunch numbers for medical research: http://folding.stanford.edu

network them together and you can monitor and configure one or the other over the network and that can be kind of fun. use a program called fahmon, or electron microscope. (not sure if these are under linux).
