okay, let's see if I get this right...
My EX-Wife's mother is a 2nd cousin to watzis face and Shirley McLain (sp?). She's a.. Beatty. Yeah. Warren Beatty and Shirley of multiple past lives McLain.
My understanding of the situation is that the famous ones have very little contact with their east coast family.

My uncle ALMOST played shortstop for the Detroit Tigers...he ended up being too short.

My great grandmother, who died at 108, was one of the first settlers of Utah. She actually made the trek by wagon from the East as a young child.

I went to school and had a calculus class with an olympic archer...Denise Parker. Most of you probably don't know her. She was pretty popular in the state when that was going on.

I'm supposedly a decendent of Francis Scott Key....the author of the US national anthem.

That's about it. Nothing fancy..

An interesting question -- which usually has a surprisingly small number as an answer -- is how many handshakes link you to various famous people. For example, if you shook hands with Truman (which I did and have the photo to prove it), then your link to Stalin or Churchill would be two (assuming you aren't one of the people still alive who shook hands with either of those men yourself), since he shook hands with Stalin and Churchill at Yalta. Just pick a famous person -- say Einstein or Eisenhower -- and see if you can come up with a verifiable chain of handshakes linking you to them. If you go back more than a generation in history it is harder since the chain will consist of handshakes that probably occurred. Even so, most people have a chain of handshakes linking them to the famous people in this century!

I used to work in a popular radio station in Honolulu. Got to meet many of the entertainers and bands passing through. Have CDs signed by 311, Filter, Sublime, Reel Big Fish, . . . plenty 420 (quality-time) with the bands including Cypress Hill, etc., Tommy Chong. Also, got to meet and know world-famous surfers.

Fame isn't such a big deal - it is apparently, however, hard to deal with.

So you are linked by a chain of just two handshakes to everyone Clinton has shaken hands with and you haven't -- which is most of the famous people on the world scene today. Since Clinton shook hands with Kennedy, you have a chain of three to everyone Kennedy shook hands with and neither you nor Clinton have. Your link to Hitler is only five I believe. See how short the chains are!

My high school best friend's sister was the girlfriend of Mike Marksev (the dude who killed Ennis Cosby). We also played freshman football together.

I played high school football with Jeremy Strofemyer (the dude who killed that little girl in the casino bathroom).

I know some pretty f*cked up people....

My Ex-Roommate is the press secratery for Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan. Because of his position he has had dinner with "Slick Willy" Clinton, and got to hang with the Shaq, Kobe, and the rest of the L.A. Lakers after their NBA win. Also have a good friend who is tight with Michael W. Smith.

I remember her. I was under the impression you were older than that.

FiddleDD's mother works in the house of a famous star, arranging his parties and local stuff. I met the guy at the airport when I was a kid and talked to him, but didn't know who he was at the time, and was getting the autograph of his travelling partner. She always brings us some of his stuff that he wants to get rid of. We are currently holding on to some pants that were worn in a classic movie, but we can't sell them til after he is dead, that was the deal. Her son wears some of his hand-me-downs to school and no one even knows.

The link to Hitler is an interesting one since he had an aversion to shaking hands with anyone. At the infamous Munich conference on 29-30 September, 1938 where the British PM Neville Chamberlain ("We have acheived peace in our time&quot and the French Edouard Daladier agreed to redraw the boundaries of Czechoslavakia so that the defensive lines the Czechs and French had prepared for over two decades were inside the territory ceded to Germany and hence useless to the defense of Czechlslavakia, Hitler was so pleased with himself for the diplomatic/military coup he had pulled off, that newsreels at the time showed the famous handshakes sealing the deal. Hitler's general staff is said to have told him that he had acheived with the stroke of a pen what would have required forty German divisions to do in the field. At any rate, the handshake with Chamberlain, linked with several between Chamberlain and Churchill is the beginning of the chain. Churchill to Eisenhower gets the chain to the US etc. Sort of fun to develop a chain or two to what you would think are inaccessible people.

Interesting question. Here is mine:

1. My wife grew up in the same neighborhood as Kirk Hammet (sp?), the guitar player from Metallica

2. There is a music group called "Lost and Found". They are known nationally, and have had a couple of thier songs played on the radio in the LA area. Well they stayed at our house when they did their first tour on 10 speed bikes. They still know me by name

3. A famous actress, who had a small part in "Gone with the wind" went to my high school 10 years before I did. And I can't remember her name right now for nothing.

I just had to point out white because not a lot of high schoolers go straight to the NBA (I think) who are white
