Haha still too cold to snow here, though we did get a few cm the other day. Hard to tell if it's new snow or just existing snow being blown around. I didn't bother to go shovel it yet. I shoveled the last snow to the side so I can pick it up with the snow blower later. I find it's a pain getting it started in this cold weather and probably not good for it (although, it's kinda designed for it...) so I avoid it if I can.

We only got about 1 inch here in Apex, NC .. other parts of the state (further east of here) got more. A person I know in Clinton, Delaware got about 6 inches or so. New Jersey has a similar amount from what I can tell. Long Island, NY also got hit pretty bad. Massachusetts had gotten much more, with another 12 - 18 inches predicted per the Weather Channel .. they are in big trouble.

I like to call that IBJS (Involuntary Bruce Jenner Syndrome). Happens if you are exposed to cold for too long. It just kinda disappears on you and you start questioning your gender identity.

Geez, wind gusts 35 mph+ 10+ inches of snow (not that bad but drifts are). At least no flooding like they had at the coast. Tomorrow will be around -15 F windchill temps. Looking forward to the warming next week. Wish I had a wood stove with the negative overnight temps so I could warm up the house faster in the morning.

Wood stove would be nice in these temps for sure. Next house I want a wood stove. Would be great to be able to have a nice fire when it's this cold. Would also be fun to get wood harvest license and just go get my own wood. Virtually free heat. I considered putting an insert in my fireplace but I actually want to get rid of the fireplace as it's in the way. I would rather put my couch where the fireplace is so it can actually face the TV. Might start on that project this year actually. Need to take the chimney out first. Just have an electric insert right now, I don't really use it.

I'm at the shore in NJ and it's nasty now. School closings for today and on Friday. Winds at 40mph w/ 60 plus gusts. Luckily high tide wasn't that bad, Only minor flooding.

I'm more concerned about the electricity. So far so good. Hate to lose power. It's cold outside.

Geez ... how hot does it have to be for the freaking road to melt?!?

Was a balmy 12f in Wilton CT this morning ... apparently that was today's high temp with lows around -5f.

10km?? Are you/they experiencing a really extraordinarily record-breaking heat wave, or did someone royally (er, no pun intended) screw up that stretch of highway?

Meanwhile... back in the Posi-podes, we're now back to down to 10F with a forecast high of 15F, ≤13F tomorrow, and ≤20F on Sunday. Then for our general work-week entertainment, it's supposed to go into the mid-high 30s starting on Monday, which will no doubt mean a full week of delightfully icy-slush-filled commuting as it all more or less thaws by late afternoon after re-freezing overnights, until it all melts away, drib by drab. Good times, good times...

Wow, is that -5F absolute? I can't remember the last time it got that cold anywhere around here, but then NYC is more or less right on the ocean, which generally tends to moderate the temperature a bit.

There is also the oodles of electric power you guys consume. Most of it ends up as environmental waste heat.

If by "absolute" you mean the actual temp without wind-chill/real-feel etc factored in then yes. In New Haven they are showing zero for the low. (right now its 10)

Actually saw -4 in Wilton briefly last winter ... for whatever reason my office is in a cold-spot.

Ouch, where is that, Canada? I guess ND, Minnesota and Wisconsin are freakish cold here in the lower 48.

I am just north of Toronto, ON. Warmer now, -20C. Not too windy so windchill is only -24C.

-27C feels like -39 here.

The other day it actually warmed up to -15. Felt almost like beach weather. lol.

I went outside to read my gas meter, I try to submit the readings if I remember, that will be the extent of my going outside today. That's one thing I like about my shift work job - all the time off I get.

I want to get a picture of a sun dog, but that requires getting up early. Someone else on the city's FB page got one though... not sure if this will work:

Not really all that bad. I was out there with just a shirt and undershirt (and jeans you perv) to retrieve my garbage cans. They were blown down the street.
Mind you I like cold more than hot. I can be outside for at least 30 min in -10C temp without a jacket. But I must have boots and gloves. Extremities don't like cold much.

Yeah I'll take the cold over the crazy heat the south gets. Anything over 25C and I'm just constantly sweating even if I'm not moving. Not really pleasant to be in.
