Whenever I use Winamp to play cd's I don't get any sound. The time meter and equalizer both operate like normal, but I just don't get any sound. However, when I use the Windows CD player or Media Player 7 I get sound. I'm sure that the cd line is connected to my SB Live! What's the problem?

Make sure cd audio isnt muted in audio properties. Mine is doing the same thing as yours. I unmute it. And every time I close winamp and open it again it seems to mute cd audio. Mabey its a problem with winamp 2.71?

Double click the Volume Icon in task bar. And it will be on that list somewhere.

I have the same problem, I tried everything I can think of. It seems like somehow only the Windows Media Player will play the CDs.

Okay, I thought you meant there was a cd mute button in Winamp.

Lxi, I had this problem once before when only Media Player 7 would play cd's, but then I realized that I was a dumbass and forgot to plug the cd line into my SB Live! I discovered that Media Player 7 actually can play cd's through the IDE channels, so you don't have to have the cd line connected to your sound card. This time it's different because the Windows cd player works fine also, and I don't think that it is capable of playing cd's through the IDE. Plus, I already checked to make sure that my cd line was connected.

Just tried version 2.72.....didn't help. The thing that's pissing me off the most is that I know this has worked before, but I just did a format and clean install, and now it's screwy.

It has nothing to do with Winamp. I tried Sonique, Winamp and MusicMatch Jukebox all gave me the same results, only WMP will play the audio CDs. I messed around with volumn controls, mute options, SB Live! drivers and everything I can think of to no avail. I havent tried the regular audio cable, Im using the digital SPDIF right now.

Hey are you guys using Windows Media Player 7 or an earlier version? I know that I did not have this problem when I used earlier versions of WMP. It's weird how everything works fine in WMP and the Windows cd player but nothing else. I'm starting to think that this is a secret ploy of Microsoft in an attempt to take over the music industry.

This is really making me angry too. Why does MS have to monopolize every program on my computer? Especially the sound!!! There must be a work around. :|

i have a similar problem... the ms cd player will play my cds fine but the WMP7 WON'T!

I can see the song playing through the equalizer but no sound...i find that i have to repeatedly return to the volume control to check that the cd spdif mute is off...what program is turning it off???

BTW, you may have to open properties on the volume control to click 'show abc', 'show def' for each of the sound inputs...

at time i have the problem that sound only comes from my right speaker...back to the volume|cdspdif|balance control...it is frustrating...other than this sound problem my sytem is a dream...with nary a BSOD or lock up...

Do any of you guys (or gals) have a problem opening the speaker control on the Creative software?? when i do it doesn't open...neither does the equalizer...DAMN!

Same problem, I dont have cd audio either. i read somewhere that you have rto go to device manager and check some box located somewhere within the cd controls, or if its checked uncheck it, but it was only for ME and 2000, I'll look up more specifics later and let ya know. Either way, I wanna know how to fix this damned problem!
