Actually overall it turns out to be cheaper to go for an amd dual core system than an intel one if ur planing on large overclocks, well in australia at least.
For amd u can pick up a 3800+ for 450 bucks, and a dfi ultra d for 200 bucks.
For intel a 920 cost 380, and u will need a good board to overclock which can cost u anywhere from 270 to 370 (370 for the new intel 975 chipset board)
Amd 650 bucks
Intel 650 +
And amd will offer better performance anyways with lower heat output. My point being is that there is not much purpose with going intel at the moment, and prolly the reason most people here still choose to got the X2/ opteron ruite over the p-d presler.
X@ 3800+ costs just $297 on newegg FYI.
So it should be:
AMD combo: X2 3800+ ($297) and DFI LP Ultra-D ($127) = $424
Intel combo: 920D ($258) and Asus P5WD2-E ($225) = $483
All newegg prices.
At stock speeds, the cheaper 3800+ combo rapes the 920D. At overclocked speeds, the 3800+ will probably still rapes the 920D and with less heat produced.
