Price comparisons with regular and ULV models are nonsense. It is also nonsense to base it on list prices. It's not what big OEM's have to pay. Don't forget A10 is a showcase APU which isn't available without discrete GPU. When it comes to integtrated graphics performance A10 won't matter. What matter are A4, A6, A8 APUs. A10 price:

http://skinflint.co.uk/eu/?cat=nb&xf=29_AMD+A10-5M#xf_top

Over 1000€!!!

Because it is not available without GPU and probably won't in the future. Haswell ULV:

http://skinflint.co.uk/eu/?cat=nb&xf=29_Core+i5-4~29_Core+i3-4~2647_15~29_Core+i7-4&sort=p

Way cheaper. The cheapest Haswell ULV notebook is listed for 399€.

Oh come on, you expect us to accept price quote from a country where they can't even driver their cars on the correct side of the road?!

(j/K) 75% English/25% Irish, only a second gen American and I had a decent British accent when I was a kid (when I wanted to).

Rednecks' knowledge of surrounding world doesn't exceed 50 mile radius from where he lives. I would feel bad about it too, bro.

HP Envy 15z, A10-5750M + 1080p screen for $620, or A8-5550M + 1080p screen for $540.
Link won't work, so just copy and paste this:
shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Laptops/HP-ENVY/C9W57AV
Find me an i7 with a 1080p screen for $620.

Now I know the list prices are nonsense, but the A10 is definitely cheaper than the i7. And you're right, it's nonsense to compare regular and ULV models. So why is that the only comparison in the review? Honestly, a 35 W i3 might perform better than a 15 W i7 anyway, so it's not about making the A10 look better. It's just that the two chips end up in completely different types of laptops, so it wasn't a very good choice for comparison.

I rather like this state!

I do too! I just still call it Cow Hampshire because traffic would stop to let the cows cross the road downtown when I first moved up here. Now I live in Manchester.

When there was nothing else but a desktop computer, in many cases the system was severely under utilized. How many people had (and still have) a mid tower that has computing power far beyond what they even begin to max out. That would be most people.

Now with the shift to much less powerful devices, the convenience is there and processing power is enough for the vast majority of workloads. To me that is why the desktop is effectively on life support.

Not ~15 years ago though. I'd be tossing a fit waiting for the damn things to finish compiling my code (we only had a distributed compiler on our Unix boxen).

Nice. I'm about 20 minutes away from Manchester.
