How did this guy use IE in Linux?

I was browsing the Mandrake Linux page and saw at http://www.linux-mandrake.com/screenshots/81snap18nov.png that some person had both the OSX versions of Internet Explorer 5.0 and Sherlock running in Mandrake Linux 8.1.

Does that mean if I rip the IE folder from OSX, zip it up, and place it in on a Linux OS that I can use it in Linux? I personally think thats slick.

well he could have been using a skin or something on a browser, but OSX is based on BSD so i'm sure if you hacked at it ALOT (and i mean ALOT, it would be very hard to the point of me being surprised if anyone ever did it), you might get it to run on other *nixes, like linux. who knows, it sure would be funny to see IE run natively on linux

funny as in "haha MS" but i dont think i'd want it running in linux on my machine!!!

You can not run IE on mandrake 8.1. But.

1. You can run Mozilla. It is very close to IE (especially last builds).
2. You can run Windows under linux - in a window . You can run several Windows at the same time (wanna have windows 98 and windows 2000 running in separate windows?). This way you can run just about any windows program you want (including IE). Look for documents for VMware, Wine, win4lin a Boch. All of them have their pros and cons.

All I see is an icon, that' very different from actually running IE on Linux which isn't possible.

I personally think Mozilla is a better browser anyway.

Isn't there a unix version of IE? If you go to help/about IE, it mentions about a Unix version of IE. Maybe it doesn't run on Linux.

there are two ways to have ie run on linux:

1) use something like vmware to run windows on and run ie on it
2) use wine to run ie

also microsoft contracted someone else to make a unix version of ie. i think it's only for hp-ux (unless you consider mac osx unix).

HPUX has IE, and I think one other *nix does... but no BSD's and no linux. IE should work under wine though

Yes but I believe it uses Cocoa (or whatever flavor the backward compatibility layer for <=OS 9 apps is) so it's no closer than before.

It runs on Mac OS X. I believe it is a native OS X application. Dont hold me to it, gimme a way to find out on my system and Ill try. There are versions of ie for both Solaris and hp-ux, but I hear they are hurting to say the least. The icons there at the bottom do not accurately represent the applications they belong to. Running ie under wine I understand, but why on dog's green earth would you run sherlock? And how? Its a PPC application (I can show the icon in a Mac OS X screenshot if you need convincing ).
